Xinyu Wen traveled to Thailand in June, planning a two-week vacation around Bangkok’s Pride parade. But the 28-year-old ended up staying a month and a half, soaking up the Thai capital’s thriving LBGTQ+ community.
"Don't say gay"-Gesetz: Schulbezirk in Florida zensiert Shakespeare
The reason autistic people identify as LGBTQI more than allistic people is a mystery still but the theory that we "just don't give a shit" is strongly endorsed in the comments. #Autism#autistic#neurodiverse#lgbtqi#ActuallyAutistic
The timing is awkward to say the least, given the murder victims' bodies atm remain unrecovered, the suspect afaik remains basically mum [keeping shtoom], & ofc the whole palaver of trial, evidence etc is still in the distant future.
Even so, don't we already know two important, & uncontested, bits of info here that make Shields' decision to wrap his editorial of longstanding police antipathy to #LGBTQI peeps around this latest tragic unnecessary loss of innocent lives, unwise at the very least, if not exposing him to criticism of drawing too long a bow?
the suspect is gay, along with the victims.
the suspect was until only very recently in a direct partner relationship with one of the victims
As such, it just seems to me that Shields is entirely barking up the wrong tree here, by his blatant & repeated linking of this crime to the historical horrors of terrible cops' misbehaviour against queer peeps.
Am i too far out on a limb here to suggest that it is extraordinarily probable the suspect in THIS case murdered the victims expressly coz of my dot points, not coz "i'm a cop, cops kill gays, ergo i must kill this pair"?
IMO Bevan Shields has made multiple blunders since becoming editor, & here i feel he's made another.
For many trans people, being able to transition can be absolutely life changing and life saving.
One person told us "Before transitioning, I could not see myself in the future. That person didn't exist, there wasn't a space in the world that I could fill. Now there is."
When I sit and stare at something (I'm doing a lot of this the last few days) the material e.g. concrete, appears to undulate gently like the ocean. It's like I'm on a low dose of mushrooms all the time. Anyone know what this is about?
Do allistic people really need constant interaction with others? In person? It sounds horrific. I lived with other people for years. Often they want interaction. That's just brutal for the autistic mind isn't it? #Autism#autistic#neurodiverse#lgbtqi#ActuallyAutistic
Lawmakers in Thailand’s lower house of Parliament have overwhelmingly approved a marriage equality bill hat would make the country the first in Southeast Asia to legalize equal rights for marriage partners of any gender. There's this myth that trans people are a 'new phenomenon' or that people 'can always tell' if someone is trans. But there's so much evidence to prove otherwise.
Take Willmer 'Little Axe' Broadnax, a popular gospel singer in the 1940s. People only found out that he was trans after his death in 1992.
This is a tough read, but if you're able to we'd encourage you to read it so that you can understand what life is like for our trans, Ugandan siblings living in Kenya.
With a General Election looming, it's important to make sure you've got an approved Voter ID or make sure you're registered for a postal/proxy vote. Make sure you're prepared to have your voice heard.
(Accessibility: Graphic shows a person posting a vote into a ballot box. Text says 'Make sure you've got an approved form of voter ID or register for a postal or proxy vote. www.transactual.org.uk/vote)
There are a lot of urban myths about changing names...
Did you know you do not actually NEED a deed poll to change name?
Check out the new section just published by TransActual for everything you'll ever need to know on name change (including why some organisations insist on seeing an enrolled deed poll before they update your records).
Looking for Survey Participants for the dissertation project "Reviewing Gender as Colonial Construct and its Impact on Transgender and Intersexual Discrimination." You must be 18+ and trans and/or intersex.
Did you know that the first journalist to reach the top of Mount Everest was a trans woman? Well, you do now. And of course, her article was front page news in 1953. She transitioned in 1964, but had to access medical transition outside of the UK, because the doctors refused her transition related care unless she divorced her wife. Jan and her wife were married for more than 50 years.
It was heartening to see the support for trans led organisations as we marched at the front of Pride in London. Showing trans people that there are organisations working for them and they’re not alone.
Posting this 👇 again for Australians, as it goes to council in Sydney this week on Weds. Let's get a many signatures as poss 👍🏻
"Sydney councillor Steve Christou has moved to ban childrens' books in Cumberland council libraries talking about same-sex parenting, despite contravening Australian anti-discrimination laws. Christou claims he has widespread support of parents.
I am constantly feeling overwhelmed. I can't believe there are people who struggle the same as I do in situations like floods and wildfires, or trying to stay alive in places like Yemen or Syria or Gaza.
It’s that time of year again. If you’re getting ready for Pride, you can show your support for trans people whilst also raising funds for a trans led and run organisation.
