#Poverty & #FoodInsecurity have worsened in most of #Canada in the past year & most provincial governments aren't doing enough to address the problem, according to a just-released series of #ReportCards.
70 yrs after #SCOTUS delivered its landmark decision outlawing school segregation, #BrownVBoardOfEducation ranks as perhaps the court’s most venerated decision….
Most everything else related to the decision…is complex.
Nearly 7/10 Americans say more should be done to integrate schools…a figure that has steadily climbed from 30% in 1973….But a deeper look into the views of both Black & White people shows skepticism about the success of #Brown….
In its unanimous decision in #Brown, #SCOTUS ruled segregated schools were #unconstitutional & “inherently unequal,” combining 5 cases in which #Black students & their schools had far fewer resources than their #White peers — longer commutes, lower-quality classes, overcrowding, fewer opportunities & less money. Yet 1/3 Black Americans now say integration has failed to improve the #education of Black students….
Citizen science projects tend to attract white, affluent, well-educated volunteers — here’s how we recruited a more diverse group to identify lead pipes in homes.

For over 50 years now, I have mostly voted right of centre. Given the issues we have across the globe such as #climatechange#inequity#socialbreakdown and others, which arise from overexploitation of natural resources and ecosystems, could someone who supports #capitalism please explain to me how a system that relies on perpetual growth can be sustainable and just? The world has finite resources to sustain life and limited capacity to absorb harm. The more I think about it, the lefter I lean.
"To allow governments to pour more and more billions into weapons that almost immediately become obsolete, thereby necessitating more billions for newer and bigger weapons, is one of the most colossal injustices in the long history of man. While we are doing this, two-thirds of the world is starving, or living in conditions of subhuman destitution.”

In the world of #business, the struggle for #equality & #FairTreatment is ongoing. #MinorityOwned businesses, like Broadus Foods, founded by rappers Snoop Dogg & Master P & Sean Combs’ DeLeon tequila, have been voicing their experiences of #inequity & #racism within the food, alcohol & even psychedelic industries. Another company that has encountered similar issues is Bliss Mushrooms, a minority-owned psychedelic company based in Oakland, California.

You already know this inequity exists if you live and work in the US.
My guess is that you probably don’t realize just how much the US Congress is beholden to international corporations and the US Chamber of Commerce. 🤬
FOR EXAMPLE, British workers have a minimum of 28 fully paid annual leave days and 28 weeks of sick leave @ $141/week. By law. Every year. Regardless of seniority.
Living with #ADHD in America in 2023 is having to ration your low risk, long-term substance abuse risk reducing, stimulant medication because Richard Nixon decided he wanted to hurt black people with the War on Drugs as a strategy to retain power.
*Hat tip to all the kids on Quillivant who were forced off by Trumps war on Brown Puerto Ricans. I see you ❤️
