My selection today is:
Kim Althea Gordon (born April 28, 1953) is an American musician, singer and songwriter, best known as the bassist, guitarist, and vocalist of alternative rock band Sonic Youth. Born in Rochester, New York, she was raised in Los Angeles, California, where her father was a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. After graduating from Los Angeles's Otis College of Art and Design, she moved to New York City to begin an art career. There, she formed Sonic Youth with Thurston Moore in 1981.[She and Moore married in 1984, and the band released a total of six albums on independent labels before the end of the 1980s. They would subsequently release nine studio albums on the major label DGC Records, beginning with Goo in 1990. Gordon was also a founding member of the musical project Free Kitten, which she formed with Julia Cafritz in 1993.
It is time for #Musicwomenwednesday, My artist this week is
Carson Amanda "Carsie" Blanton (born July 22, 1985) is an American singer-songwriter based in New Jersey, who performs on guitar. Blanton has released eight studio albums and three EPs, all with a "pay what you please" pricing strategy. Blanton wrote "My true calling as an artist is to share…What I actually want to do is make beautiful music and then give it to everyone, regardless of what they give me back."
Fresh Air called Blanton "one of those hard-headed open-hearted protestors who can make revolution sound desirable to your body, even if your mind wants to resist it", in reference to her 2021 album, Love and Rage.
For this #MusicWomenWednesday , I'll jump on the Chelsea Wolfe train. Yes, the dark queen unleashed a new album, that it's really impossible to ignore.
This is a metal rendition of "Zombie On Your Lawn" by Collision Zero, a female-fronted heavy metal duo, who does some nerdy covers. They stopped publishing stuff, but still, they deserve a listening IMHO.
For this #MusicWomenWednesday , by @loewe , a track from another interesting female dark and unsettling singer-songwriters. This is a genre that in recent times really captured me, so I'm continuing to explore.
And Darkher's world is another shore where I landed.
Juliette Mauduit is a band member of Thot and her vocal range adds depth to Thot's new album Delta. Not all of the album gels with me, but there's plenty of wonderful tracks
I can't really define what subgenres the band and their music fits, but I'd say it's metal, post-punk and more elements.
