#ICYMI you can now catch @jenniferplusplus's #OTel Q&A interview on the @opentelemetry YouTube channel. Learn how Jennifer's strategic focus on Observability during a challenging migration situation at a previous job brought order to chaos, and how she made sure to share her OTel knowledge with co-workers so that she didn't become a bottleneck to Observability.
Sometimes it helps to think of software concepts as metaphors for things in the physical world. This is my attempt to describe distributed tracing to beginners: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ZirbR0ZJIOs
"A long time ago, #observability as we know it didn't exist; what we had instead was monitoring." Check out @frankel 's of #ApacheAPISIX latest post, this time on the #OpenTelemetry Collector, which sits at the center of the OpenTelemetry architecture.
This week on Slight Reliability @paigerduty is back! This time we dive into sampling of distributed traces. We cover...
🕸️ What is distributed tracing? What are spans?
🧪 What is sampling? And why do we need it?
🤯 What constitutes an interesting trace?
🦘 No sampling VS head based VS tail based
👩🏾🔬 Non-traditional use cases of tracing such as CI/CD
🧻 The power of napkin math to make informed decisions
...and much more.
I've created some issues in the Aspire repo too, so it might get to something official at some stage, but for now, feel free to try and, and maybe just copy the approach!
#introduction
Hi everyone! This is Iulia (iulia not Lulia).
I’ve been talking about tech, data science, and ML for a while now; either on YouTube or while working at Microsoft / AI Unicorn Dataiku.
Now, it’s my main job! As a Developer Advocate @Elastic, I build content using #python for #search and #observability with some #AI sprinkled in.
We have an awesome Dev community in Amsterdam that I take care of (come to our meet-ups!)
And I travel across Northern Europe to speak at conferences.
@grafana always scales up infrastructure for Black Friday as it's an important time for our customers. We do it in general, but some customers require specific increases.
The market leader in an end consumer segment just asked us to scale the logs infra up by 25% and keep metrics as-is.
When I keep saying that metrics are the most efficient data format in observability, this is what I mean...
tailspin is a log file highlighter written in Rust that works by reading through a log file line by line, running a series of regexes against each line. The regexes recognize patterns like dates, numbers, severity keywords and more.
🔴 Live now with a couple of my colleagues from @grafana to talk about Grafana Agent and the use of telemetry collectors. Great excuse to ask all my questions about agent-based monitoring.
I was chatting about #observability with some people today, and something reminded me of an old talk I did. I looked it up and found that it was my keynote at #Monitorama 2014. It's interesting to watch a call to action kind of talk, and to reflect on what has changed since. There's better tools for #microservices, #DevOps and #cloud now than nine years ago, but I don't think people paid much attention to the 5 rules I came up with, and I still think they matter... https://vimeo.com/95064249
