Using the Mastodon API (that means: not using the internal web server) makes the snac2 experience much snappier. That's expected: rendering and transmitting the html requires more time, no js involved at all.
@stesnac@scooter what is "the PWA" ? I also like #Phanpy and using it also on hand-held device but it lacks being a share target at the moment so I also use #Tusky
I have a lot of development hopes for fedi software and services, but my top one, by far, is a #PWA client that would combine @pinafore's speedy, offline-friendly LocalStorage based toot cache and minimal DOM memory use with @phanpy's awesome UI innovation. #fediverse#pinafore#phanpy
Esto tengo que probarlo ya... #Phanpy está usando IA para añadir descripciones a las imágenes que publicamos si no ponemos nada. En teoría hace una descripción de la imagen (sólo en inglés). A ver si funciona...
@julianfairfax I use this feature on #Phanpy, but since I can only think and talk about tech and programming, the only other instance I follow is hachyderm.io 😅
@notizie Il client Mastodon #Phanpy mostra le risposte a se stesso come concatenate. Priva a cercare l'indirizzo del post a cui fai riferimento da phanpy.social
So why haven't I fully committed to it yet? The main reason is that the triple-click-to-boost (open > boost > confirm) really cramps my style (heavy booster as I am). I know I'm not the only one who thinks similarly https://github.com/cheeaun/phanpy/issues/186 but also, #Phanpy is explicitly defined as opinionated, so …
There's also a minor bug with alt text rendering, in that the nifty way @phanpy presents it apparently fails to show anything in some circumstances, which I'm currently investigating for a bug report. (The alt text is detected by #Phanpy and shown as appropriate when interacting with the small [ALT] box, but does not appear as image description in the main post as it does in other posts.)
TFW something you’ve been praising turns out to cooler than you thought.
Talking about Phanpy.social - a Mastodon client that you if haven't if tried yet you really should. Turns out it has awesome keyboard shortcuts (one of them is "?" to show them). But my fave is "/" which does exactly what most of you think it does and - in these times, what with Mastodon search having become kind of useful - is just brilliant, in that it preserves phanpy’s minimalist aesthetic.
Honestly, using #Phanpy feels a lot like using the #Mastodon web UI if it had been in 2 years of additional development. Lots of stuff people have been asking for, beautifully implemented.
Give it a try if:
you've been overwhelmed by a reply thread on Mastodon because it's all just a big flat mess
In addition to being my preferred desktop client for #Mastodon, #Phanpy has, for now, replaced #Tusky as well on my Android phone. I installed it as a web app via Firefox Android and it behaves just like a native app. Not sure if it's possible to get rid of the white bar at the top, but otherwise it works very smoothly, including notifications.
Switched from #Phanpy back to the regular multicolumn Mastodon layout. Will come back to look at it some other time, but for right now I need them quick buttons at the bottom of each post.
Edit: I also need a way of disabling it telling me that some images that I just posted don't have alt-text. Sorry, but fuck alt-text. 🤷♂️
Hmm. One problem with #Phanpy that I'm not sure there's a setting for, is seeing the quick actions at the bottom of each post, like how many likes, the comment voiceballoon, retweet icon etc.
Edit: Oh, ok. You can rightclick any post to pop up a dialog with diff actions. That works, but I'd like all the details shown permanently at the bottom of each post by default.
Has anyone tried #Phanpy as an alternative Mastodon web-based UI?
I've been using it for the past couple of days and I definitely find it much easier to read posts.
For those not familiar, when you go to https://phanpy.social, you just specify your Mastodon server (like hear-me.social) when you set up the account and then log in using the same Mastodon credentials. You now have access to your account, but have a different UI is all.
There are, of course, some improvements I'd like to see, but I am very much enjoying it.
@gabrielesvelto What do you like most about it? Can you list a few things you'd consider the biggest improvements over the vanilla Mastodon web interface, just to give a taste? 🙂
Guys, how do you manage lists on #GtS?
I figured it out once, but now I'm lost.
I can view them in #semaphore, but can't edit them.
I can view them and remove members in #Phanpy, but can't add them.
