Sto provando phanpy.social un frontend alternativo per mastodon e, nonostante sia ancora acerbo (a me ad esempio non funziona il pulsante per scrivere un nuovo post) sembra davvero promettente!

3 cose saltano subito all'occhio rispetto all'interfaccia ufficiale:

  1. le risposte ad albero sui threads permettono una visione immediata di come si è sviluppata la discussione (fig. 1)
  2. i boosts non vengono mischiati ai toots, ma ogni tanto vengono raggruppati nel feed in dei carousel (fig. 2)
  3. è possibile sfogliare le timeline locali di altre istanze e metterle nei preferiti per tornarci facilmente

Tanta roba!

@cheeaun I'm loving so far! I have a request though: could the "translate" button be hidden for languages I speak, or entirely? It takes up a lot of space and is kind of detracting from the minimalistic appeal, and it's usually not necessary since I speak the language.

Posted in German this morning, that surely many people are leaving early after signing up because the Web-UI doesn't really look nice.

That's why I would suggest telling every newcomer not only to try out other mobile-apps, but also web-apps like , , and more (see the screenshots). In addition, one could also look at other services in the , I especially like .

mho,

Biggest advantage of : You can always switch the account, even directly at Posts.

Biggest advantages of : Boost carousel and comments as Threads.

Biggest advantage of : Many Filters for all timelines, even Home.

Aside from looking real good, and having a multi-column view, @phanpy is doing something I've not yet seen in any client (be it browser, desktop, or mobile) and I love it.

I can setup a timeline to view hashtags. Not just one hashtag, but up to five combined!

For example:
I could have a dedicated webdev column, watching the tags - Frontend, CSS, 11ty, UI, JavaScript.

This is a great way of curating and surfacing content I'm interested in 💚 Thanks devs!

I'm sorry I'm being an absolute stan today but this is what Mastodon UI/UX should be. 😭 Look at these gorgeous threaded comments!

Been active here since Nov 2022. Seeing new followers past few weeks, so here’s my 1st (late)

I’ve built a bunch of projects since 2002-ish https://cheeaun.com/projects/ . I also wrote some (very) long-form & super-detailed blog posts https://cheeaun.com/blog/

I’m a dev professionally since 2006, now based in Singapore. My 1st involvement in was with Mozilla/Firefox/Firebird/Phoenix when I created a 3rd-party (full) theme called

For those who are impressed by , a little background:

  • Comment threads UI design was from my other app, HackerWeb (Hacker News iOS app built in React Native). IMO, HackerWeb’s implementation is way better than Phanpy’s still.
  • Fluid app-like designs are from my experience in building HackerWeb (web version), where I replicated skeuomorphic iOS UI/UX on the web in 2012; Part 1 of article: https://cheeaun.com/blog/2012/03/how-i-built-hacker-news-mobile-web-app/
  • Another cool PWA I built is BusRouter SG https://busrouter.sg

For users: on the web version, is there a way to enable interaction icons without having to click into each post?

First time using it today and loving the interface, I just don't like having to click into every post to interact. thx!

BTW, if you use phanpy.social, you already get what’s effectively quote-tweeting, if you paste in the URL of the post you want to quote.

I'm sure there are other clients that are doing this now?

@timbray is so good. There are so many tiny quality-of-life things in there you just can't find on any other web client at the moment.

It's been six months since Elon took over Twitter. I have some thoughts on the "Twitter diaspora" and the current decentralized alternatives: https://www.techdirt.com/2023/04/28/six-months-in-thoughts-on-the-current-post-twitter-diaspora-options/

Great article from @mmasnick breaking down the three front-runner decentralized social protocols. For anybody interested, check it out. Loved seeing shoutouts for , and for alternative Mastodon web clients like .

I’m still betting on of course, and have tried . I look forward to getting invited to at some point, and in seeing what their federation actually looks like. Until that’s in place it’s all kind of moot.

After getting more for recommended some days ago it's getting quite crowded. 😅

One of my favorite things about (in addition to the beautiful UI and boost carousel) is the hidden post action buttons and ability to right-click (or long less on mobile) to access post actions.

The one Mastodon feature I would like to see, more than the next 3 or 4 put together, would be: Don’t show me stuff I’ve already seen!

Or at least do it less. If something is getting boosted a lot, maybe a maximum of once a day tell me that it got 38 more boosts, including 11 of my follows. Even better, show it just once only.

Thank you.

sccook,

@atomicpoet @timbray @phanpy Thank you for recommending . Tried it, liking it so far. USP for me is that it has a menu item that lists the hashtags that I follow.

Every day something new for . Today it's https://phanpy.social that makes it way more easy to follow conversations, looks really beautiful.
