Sto provando phanpy.social un frontend alternativo per mastodon e, nonostante sia ancora acerbo (a me ad esempio non funziona il pulsante per scrivere un nuovo post) sembra davvero promettente!
3 cose saltano subito all'occhio rispetto all'interfaccia ufficiale:
le risposte ad albero sui threads permettono una visione immediata di come si è sviluppata la discussione (fig. 1)
i boosts non vengono mischiati ai toots, ma ogni tanto vengono raggruppati nel feed in dei carousel (fig. 2)
è possibile sfogliare le timeline locali di altre istanze e metterle nei preferiti per tornarci facilmente
@cheeaun I'm loving #phanpy so far! I have a request though: could the "translate" button be hidden for languages I speak, or entirely? It takes up a lot of space and is kind of detracting from the minimalistic appeal, and it's usually not necessary since I speak the language.
Posted in German this morning, that surely many people are leaving #Mastodon early after signing up because the Web-UI doesn't really look nice.
That's why I would suggest telling every newcomer not only to try out other mobile-apps, but also web-apps like #Elk, #Phanpy, #Trunks and more (see the screenshots). In addition, one could also look at other services in the #Fediverse, I especially like #Calckey.
Aside from looking real good, and having a multi-column view, @phanpy is doing something I've not yet seen in any #Mastodon client (be it browser, desktop, or mobile) and I love it.
I can setup a timeline to view hashtags. Not just one hashtag, but up to five combined!
For example:
I could have a dedicated webdev column, watching the tags - Frontend, CSS, 11ty, UI, JavaScript.
This is a great way of curating and surfacing content I'm interested in 💚 Thanks devs!
I’m a #FrontEnd dev professionally since 2006, now based in Singapore. My 1st involvement in #OpenSource was with Mozilla/Firefox/Firebird/Phoenix when I created a 3rd-party (full) theme called #Phoenity
For those who are impressed by #Phanpy, a little background:
Comment threads UI design was from my other app, HackerWeb (Hacker News iOS app built in React Native). IMO, HackerWeb’s implementation is way better than Phanpy’s still.
Great article from @mmasnick breaking down the three front-runner decentralized social protocols. For anybody interested, check it out. Loved seeing shoutouts for #Calckey, and for alternative Mastodon web clients like #Phanpy.
I’m still betting on #ActivityPub of course, and have tried #Nostr. I look forward to getting invited to #Bluesky at some point, and in seeing what their federation actually looks like. Until that’s in place it’s all kind of moot.
One of my favorite things about #Phanpy (in addition to the beautiful UI and boost carousel) is the hidden post action buttons and ability to right-click (or long less on mobile) to access post actions.
The one Mastodon feature I would like to see, more than the next 3 or 4 put together, would be: Don’t show me stuff I’ve already seen!
Or at least do it less. If something is getting boosted a lot, maybe a maximum of once a day tell me that it got 38 more boosts, including 11 of my follows. Even better, show it just once only.
@atomicpoet@timbray@phanpy Thank you for recommending #phanpy. Tried it, liking it so far. USP for me is that it has a menu item that lists the hashtags that I follow.
