I just watched #Elemental (Disney) and I am… Underwhelmed. The first non-binary character in a Disney movie? The representation was so subtle, my partner missed it. While I get that this is an important step: Can we please please please go faster? It's 2023. Where is the non-binary lead we deserve???
(happy to see immigration stories on the big screens tho!) #RepresentationMatters#NonBinary#Queer#LGBTQIA#AlphabetMafia
this might be a silly thing, but am organizing my media and i found this version of #Mastodon's mascot, that i found on dainnanets. the uri says it's "Mastodon Mascot Greeting"
The kids go back to school tomorrow and I'm making it a parents' holiday and taking the day off from work to see Blue Beetle. Supporting our latino superheroes.
Science is for everyone, but not everyone can see themselves there.
That’s one reason I love this beautifully illustrated, FREE to download comic book developed by Flint teachers, artists & plant biologists. Through classroom modules w real plants, high school students learn how traits evolve over time through natural selection w characters who look like more of them. And that matters toward building a more inclusive STEM future. https://hioh.education/monkeyflowers-graphic-novel#science#art
This is so neat! Books, TV, and film play a huge role in inspiring young people to go into the STEM fields, and having more inclusive and accurate representation can only foster more ideas, more solutions, and more equity -- and hopefully a planet we can all cohabitate on peacefully.

"In the 101 top-grossing G-rated films from 1990 to 2005, just 28% of speaking characters were female. Even in crowd scenes—even in animated crowd scenes—male characters vastly outnumber female ones. In the 56 top grossing films of 2018, women portrayed in positions of leadership were four times more likely than men to be shown naked."
Took the kiddo to her first 3D movie, #TheLittleMermaid, and she loved it! Seeing someone that looked like her in the lead, singing, being brave, and brilliant. #RepresentationMatters and always has. Thank you, Disney and Halle Bailey.
➡️ One of the best things about Tw was/is finding interesting ppl and can read and connect with, without having to belong to that group. W/o Tw, I would never have had the chance to easily find & read about aerosols and the hundreds of other interesting topics.
🌟Now, I continue to hope that I can do it here on Mastodon. Still new, but it is looking good! 👍🎉
➡️ It was on Tw that I saw Black ppl encouraging others to go see “Crazy Rich Asians”, to show up for Asians. And vice versa, Asians encouraged others to go see “Black Panther”. To support each other.
😭😭❤️
I'm just remembering some of the good things about Tw. And I expect to see good things on Mastodon, too.
