After nurturing this plant for the last 13 years, (acquired no higher than 30cm, it's now well over 2 metres tall) for the first time ever, it has flowered, producing 7 flowering spikes. This one opened this morning.
Many years ago I saw bird of paradise flowers blooming in the magnificent Kirstenbosch botanical gardens in Cape Town. I have coveted them ever since. It is bringing much joy and a touch of South African sun to the cold northern February #NeverGiveUp#gardening#plants#plantstodon

When there is no #love left
Look again
Sometimes
It needs finding
It needs tending
It needs believing
It can become greater
For
What else is love
Than willingness
To find it
To tend it
To believe it
Can become greater
Even in places
Even in times
When it seems not to exist
When it seems there is no love left
Look again
For
There is so much love
Still

In 2021, I went to LA for the first time. My Vietnamese neighbors in San Francisco (old ladies) begged me to please find them their favorite Saigon sausage maker, who is now in LA. They couldn’t even remember the name. Or anything. Just that it was their favorite Chinese sausage in the universe.
After some Internet sleuthing involving many Vietnamese Chinese food writers in SoCal, who asked their grandparents, we found it. Quang Tran, in Rosemead.
@geraineon True. But last time that happened in Japan, the socialist candidate for PM was murdered in public and the fascists seized control. But, like you said, mb nowadays things are different. Hopefully, we can change this trend. #NeverGiveUp
"If you ever wondered what it was like to live in early 1930's Germany, we are all getting a sense with Donald Trump and the fascist MAGA movement.
The similarities between Trump’s current tactics and Hitler’s rise to power in 1930’s Germany are no longer being whispered after Trump’s speech Saturday. They are being shouted—and they should be."
The Greatest Glory in Life is Not in Never Striking Out, but in Rising Up every Time you Strike Out and Pretending like it Didn't Hurt at All. #NeverGiveUp#RiseUp#KeepSwinging
This graphic shows the globally averaged temperature of every day since 1958
Because most of the earth's land mass is in the northern hemisphere, you can see the widening of the (northern) summer season, both starting earlier and ending later in the year
You can see the insane heat this past summer.
I think of this graph when I see how green the trees are where I live, in mid October.
