9.37 miles easy run @ , also testing another pair of : ASICS Gel-Nimbus 25. Result is not good: the lateral side of my right foot hurts after the run (not during)! I blame it on the high stack of cushioning: my theory is my natural reflex to counterbalance the unevenness of the trail surface is interfered/distorted by the cushioning. Does that sound plausible?

Sunday run

We used the tracks through the near to get around. What started as a bright morning had moments of threat in the sky, although we didn't get wet.

18k, tracks and some gravelled service roads.

A collie sits wondering which ways we are going.

My dear #running / #trailrunning friends: I need to ask for advise on picking #shoes for #marathon runs on paved roads and mildly unpaved trails (photo 1):

  1. ASICS Trabuco Max 2 (photo 2): the middle in weight (~290g), not waterproof. Bouncy w/ rocker design.
  2. Salomon Speedcross 5 (photo 3): the heaviest (~295g), waterproof(?). Big lugs.
  3. Nike Pegasus Trail 4 GTX (photo 4): the lightest (~270g), waterproof. Smallest lugs.

Do you have experience w/ any of these? What would you pick?

@jbigham Thanks — I think Salomon is out then.

Between the remaining two: I like NIKE because they have guards on the heels to stop pebbles from coming into the shoes, and they are waterproof (allegedly). ASICS has nice bouncy feeling and I’m quite used to their shoes.

BenjaminHan,
@BenjaminHan@sigmoid.social avatar

@jbigham I’m th opposite. I tried earlier HOKA Speedgoat and they are too narrow for me. For waterproofing, I’d prefer not to run in soggy “boats” if I can — yes, personal preference, and a necessity in #pacificNorthWest :-)

One of the stretch goals in 2024 is now accomplished! I got my latest PR in today's 5K: 21:38 at pace 6'57"/mile, thus reaching my goal of getting sub-7' pace!

Going in I was pessimistic because of the jet lag. Turns out running uphills with 1300ft elevation gains in paid off!

Next up: finish 5K in under 21 minutes!

I will not lie, I'm done with winter. But winter is not done.
I usually embrace outdoor conditions, but today was a treadmill day. My first, and hopefully, my last of the year. This is not my cup of tea!!

Other sidewalk covered in snow. We see the bike sharing station in the background, which was installed yesterday!
A branch fell off on the sidewalk, because of the snow weight. Which is quite heavy.

31st half marathon, 31 days

Pheeew. Made it on Sunday with a last run from Galashiels, up to Maigle Hill, Torwodlee Broch and return. The Broch is one of three in the Borders and is overlooked by one at last weekends run.

A gorgeous day and a stiff run 480 metres of climbing and steep with it. Slowest run of the month. 2 hrs 5 mins.

A fundraiser with two colleagues (one cycling, one swimming) for the Borders Food Banks.

Photo taking a water break by the masts at Meigle Hill, bright day with the Collie waiting to get going again
Photo The view down towards Gala, blue sky, the neighbouring Broch can just be made out in the distance
Photo The remains of Torwoddle Broch, ditch and what remains of walls. More obvious on the ground

Perhaps a bunny helped me today 🐇? After last Sunday's race PR, on my 50th 5K today I made my third PR this year: time was 22:33, pace 7’16”! This is 34 seconds faster than my last PR!

This completes my 2nd goal in 2024: earn 3 PRs in Parkrun!

My first , done! Official result was 3:51:39.8, pace 8'50"/mile. I was ranked overall 50/167, in males 40/102, or in my age group 5/9. This is slightly slower than my PR in practice (3:50:33, pace 8'48”).

But the official time didn't account for the three times I was lost (!) and had to either retract or asked people (I was not the only one). According to my watch I earned PR on marathon: 3:44:58, pace 8’35”, and : 1:45:19, pace 8’02”. (1/2)

5th time is the charm: I finally cracked my 1st sub-4h today! Moving time was 3:50:33, pace 8’48”/mile. For each half I was actually faster than my best official PR (1:55:16 < 1:56)!

Weather was typical : nagging drizzle. Temperature feels like 40F (4.4C) w/ wind 7 mph (S). Thanks to my son on the bike (he came even when losing 1 hour sleep to change), we performed no-stopping fueling twice, and I only brought two gel packs on me w/o phone.

Got my PR in my dusk run in the park: time 1:17:51 pace 8’21”/mile! Getting ready for the early March in !

Although there’s still a lot of room for improvement, I’m proud that I can actually speed up my pace now into the run! And this was done after a heavy meeting day at work started at 8am!

Bonus: I got a heart award on this special day!

Today I ran my 2nd practice run this month with my son riding his bike with me! Weather was cool with a bit of drizzle at the end, temperature was 55F (12.8C) w/ dew point at 53F.

Distance was 26.27 miles, moving time was 4:11:50, and pace was 9’35”/mile. This is 22+ minutes faster than a couple weeks ago!

I’ve done it: my first-ever ! Temperature was 22F/-5.6C in lovely , time was 4:34:01 (excluding time for picture taking), and pace was 10'26".

This was my 4th attempt to extend my range beyond half Marathon (13.1 miles), starting from 16 miles, then 20, 23, and finally today's 26.24.

“… a 2018 review noted the relationship between and energy intake being J-shaped: is dysregulated at low levels of physical activity, creating a mismatch between the energy expended and the amount of food consumed, leading to weight gain. On the other hand, as physical activity increases, so too does satiety signalling, which reduces the amount of food consumed.”
