A today from Subterranean Press--The Best of Catherynne M. Valente. What is most enticing is that this hefty tome is only Volume 1!

A bit late reporting this, but last week, the indefatigable researcher Fred Shapiro found a clear 1906 example of "science fiction", in reference to H.G. Wells. Since (as with many terms) the early history is a bit muddled, this is an important discovery.

https://sfdictionary.com/view/209/science-fiction

(The first known example is from 1898 (also referring to Wells), with an 1897 quote (perhaps from the same person) in the sense 'a work of science fiction'.)

So, I started watching again. When it comes to (a.k.a. ) and ) type of , nothing beats “Fringe”

(Except the series finale/ending, I give that to and another one I can't remember right now.)

I lost track how many times I've rewatched Fringe. I still haven't found anything like it.

Some say is like Fringe. Is it true? Does it beat it, or at last at par with it? I have yet to watch Stranger Things. Or, something else in your mind?

"The villains of Cory’s books aren’t really people; they’re systems." Peter Watts's fantastic post about @pluralistic's "Red Team Blues" adds to my reading pleasure. This Star Wars illustration is fantastic. Sad story from the films, but cute representation.

If you’re a fan, it will make sense. If not, well, I hope you like illustrations.

Since I love since fiction, I’ve been doing some research about its background. Sci-fi is often viewed as a modern genre, but did you know that science fiction story elements date back as far as the 14th Century? It’s true. https://inkican.com/historical-science-fiction/

Adrian Tchaikovsky is here now (whenever now is) to save the time travel genre (and make fun of Plato).

This is one of the books that is so good it reminds me why I love science fiction so much!

It's time for a little personal tribute, because I watched BATTLESTAR GALACTICA again after almost 15 years and came to the conclusion that this show is still by far the best science fiction series I have ever seen. Nothing even comes close to the show for me and I will definitely watch it again in 10 years - I'll be 70 then - and still think it's great. If you haven't seen the series yet, you should definitely do so.

Sarah Gailey's The Echo Wife, is also on sale on Audible.

It's a powerful book about cloning, abusive relationships, free will, chauvinism, humanity and inhumanity. With an unsympathetic viewpoint character as part if it's charm.
