Explore the wilder, more #experimental side of my work with Metaphysical Shitposting, an evolving collection (new tracks added about once a month) of #drone, #ambient and #soundscape pieces, with the occasional splash of musique concrete, #kosmische and #noise mixed in to keep things interesting.
Look here, it's #NewMusic for you! Every week I cover 5+ new acts, listen to ~15 min worth of stuff, then tell you all about it so you can check out the ones that seem intriguing. This week we had a couple different flavors of #ambient and New Age, some #neoclassical (that also works as ambient 😅 ) and a really distinctive #rock track. Check them out!
The studio for today: I had to find a way to get started again after a (for me) long break. Just realised that the pictures and I were very focussed downward - I guess I still have things to work out.
And this is how it turned out! There are a few glitches here and there. One really noticable pause when I hit an effects switch, and there was a background noise/hum I think caused by battery-powering the recorder which I've pretty much taken out. Some wind noises too because I forgot to put a windshield on the mic. But on the whole I like that this is a little bit broken, because at the moment so am I and that's fine too.
Here's the weekly digest thread of my #OPM post: 5 writeups of new (to you, probably) artists and #music for your listening pleasure. #Rock, several flavors of #ambient and #NewAge and more await you within!
Of course, you can read the whole thing, with longer writeups than fit in a single post, here:
Dark, atmospheric electronic meditations that live in the realms of #breakbeat#ambient, if that is a thing. “Swallow It Up” is a skeletal beat hung with shards of synth textures for the first half before adding another layer or two of percussion and something like a minimal bassline. Spare and haunting. Closing track “For Dad” is a distillation of old-school #electronica channeled into a soundtrack for late-night drives.
This collection is billed as “embellished piano improvisations” and that’s a fair assessment. The core elements here are piano improvs and field recordings that typically feature the “beautiful birds” of the title. Added to these parts are touches of synthesizer pads and washes, most on the delicate and/or haunting side of things. Falling somewhere between #ambient and #NewAge, these pieces manage to be both delicate and weighty.
Lush, organic sounding #neoclassical that would probably serve pretty well for #ambient fans as well. Creative arrangements and instrumentation paired with rich, vibrant production give these two tracks a widescreen, cinematic energy that sucks you into another sonic world. Just two tracks now, but six more are incoming if you like them.
Seven tracks of classic-style ambient – lots of #synth washes, an inoffensive arpeggiated synth here and there, the very occasional hint of a beat – each tied to a separate mood. The sound design is solid, showcasing a decent variety of typically ambient textures, with the occasional dip into #synthwave. In true #ambient fashion, this one is easy to get lost in – put it on, turn it down and zone out while it does its thing.
Hej. Słuchałby to ktoś?
ps. Na licencji CC-BY więc moglibyście wykorzystywać do Waszych podkastów lub muzyki pod warunkiem podania źródła.
in an effort to expand my music library and also share cool stuff, fedi, I beseech thee... lend me your ears (and boosts)
if you listen to, make, or have a friend who makes electronic music that fits any of these descriptions:
sounds like the early 2000s, especially if it's some kind of dnb, jungle, or ambient
nostalgic futurism that isn't dnb or ambient (and especially not synthwave!)
sounds like racing game music from back when it was too good
vaporwave but original (as in, not sample based) and not synthwave
weird and wacky experimental electronica that can work in the background
bass heavy but low intensity music that tickles the brain
just really pretty and interesting ambient or drone stuff in general
please drop names and links here. by all means, plug yourself and your friends if you want to
bandcamp, mirlo, faircamp, and similar links are preferable, but any link will do if those aren't available. extra bonus points if creative commons or similar
I think these styles of music are amazing and rather underrated, especially since a lot of the people who like these styles are just playing random youtube mixes in the background, so they have no idea what they're actually listening to or who to support
I also find this kind of music annoyingly hard to discover, which isn't helped by those mixes either, because most of them are either drawing from the same small handful of artists, or just playing video game soundtracks
I want to change that, even if only a little bit. for that reason, please boost
aside from just hoping to spread this post around, I'd love to write about what I hear on my website eventually too, play it during livestreams with the titles on screen, and of course share it with all my non-fedi friends
Friends, followers and musically curious onlookers, I could really use some listens today! I'm an independent #musician who makes weird, #psychedelic#ElectronicMusic for listening to from the couch. If you're new to my oeuvre, this is the best place to start:
If you're already familiar with that one, and/or like your #WeirdMusic a little more in the #drone, #ambient and #soundscape vein, your next stop is Metaphysical Shitposting, which you'll find here:
