Another weekend ride around part of Lake Washington. This time, I was surprised to find the 520 bridge closed to bikes, so I had to extend the ride about 50%, making it the longest ride I've done in a while. Strava says I burned 1338 calories! (The picture looks very similar to the one I took last weekend, but if you look closely you'll see the cormorants are all facing the opposite direction.)

Bit of a design fail when I choose to avoid the “healthy street” intended for bikes because there are so many speed bumps to slow down cars (without cutouts for bikes) and go for the parallel no speed bump side street instead. For local folks (1st ave north of 85th in Greenwood—I’ve been diverting to 2nd instead).

Q8. Do we have a list of cycle companies and cycle-related advocacy organizatons on the Fediverse? Who should we be aware of?

@daihard@infosec.town avatar

@moira @ascentale @seabikeblog I wish Seattle Neighbourhood Greenways (SNG) had a Fediverse account. I've asked them to join in before but they haven't decided to yet. I should push again.

folks! If you're in the area they are asking for feedback for their plan! They're doing what we want, more medium housing, more transit, more walking and biking. But NIMBY-ers are quickly filling in the comments and calls, literally with phrases like "anti cars" and saying they need MORE parking lots, less housing. PLEASE boost and share with your other friends, let's encourage and https://edmonds2044.infocommunity.org/

I always love this little bridge across Ravenna Park and usually try to make it part of the somewhat longer version of my usual loop. (1)

More copies of my book Biking Uphill in the Rain: The Story of Seattle from behind the Handlebars just arrived at Seattle Bike Blog HQ. There are not a ton of these first run copies anymore, so get one while you can: https://www.seattlebikeblog.com/shop/biking-uphill-in-the-rain-the-story-of-seattle-from-behind-the-handlebars-signed/ If you buy it from the SBB shop, I'll sign it and throw in a free sticker. #SEAbikes #Seattle

The current wide-legged pants trend is really not so bike friendly (extra hassle of binding the bottom, don’t work well under rain pants…) #bike #BikeTooter #cycling #seabikes #women #fashion

I guess the way to celebrate Spring Equinox is to have an Ahi Tuna sandwich at the Habit Burger listening to Culture Club's "Karma Chameleon"...

1/4 Double-dipped for community events in South Seattle today; started by briefly helping the @SeattleStreetFixers cleanup on MLK Way with @jrock08 Kate, @bvandeynze Riley, & special guest helper Evelyn Chow from Councilmember Tammy Morales’ office (thanks for coming out!)

3/4 Everyone on the Beacon Hill Safe Streets community bike ride was able to enjoy freshly installed concrete protection on the Columbian Way bike lanes while construction workers were installing more pieces; we cheered on the workers as we passed by. Thank you SDOT!

NBD... well, not exactly, but I picked up a 2015 Trek 1.1 for $200 USD. According to the seller, the bike was used once for a ride event (Seattle To Portland) but not much since. It's got the Shimano Claris with 11-28T, which isn't ideal for steep hills, but it's okay. I mainly intend to use it for errands and commuting.
