Terry Pratchett owned a greenhouse full of carnivorous plants. He described them as "not as interesting as people think".

On his birthday, 10 things you might not know about Terry Pratchett:

Never build a dungeon you wouldn’t be happy to spend the night in yourself. The world would be a happier place if more people remembered that.

The scheduling gremlins have got us again - we’ve had to delay , our previously announced short story episode about “Hollywood Chickens" and “From the Horse's Mouth”.

But we are embracing the chaos: our May episode will now be all about this year’s theme: “Start in the Wrong Place!”

So if your first or novel wasn’t The Colour of Magic or the usual recommendations, tell us: where did you start?

It's nice to see that the users of my app are noticing that the window title of my fatal error dialog is quoting error messages from Hex, the computer at Unseen University in Ankh-Morpork. 😁

Thankfully, the error is in a pre-release at least. Crashes are not nice.

Today I set out to memorize the titles of all the Discworld books in order. I've made it to twenty (Hogsfather, which was over of the first I read) so far.

All 41 book titles are now more or less memorized. I say "more or less" because there are still a couple (ok, 4-5) that are intermittently hard to recall. A little more practice should do the trick.

Perfect refutation of "it's not that simple."

“There’s no greys, only white that’s got grubby. I’m surprised you don’t know that. And sin, young man, is when you treat people as things. Including yourself. That’s what sin is.’

‘It’s a lot more complicated than that’

‘No. It ain’t. When people say things are a lot more complicated than that, they means they’re getting worried that they won’t like the truth. People as things, that’s where it starts.”

02.04.3024 What books/resources have you used to improve your writing? Which ones do you recommend?
1/2
Basically none. I once read an interview from Terry Pratchett I believe. In which he stated that his characters need a solid motivation.

I try to focus on the feeling of my characters as if they where people I can talk to, about their motivations.
And I learned nobody likes the Master of all traits, "flaws" are important, motivations.

It's the first day of spring which means that the Morris will be danced up in the Ramtops today. Which Discworld book starts with the words “The Morris dance”?

"…only in one place have they got it right. It's a small village high in the Ramtop Mountains…
There, the men dance on the first day of spring, backwards & forwards, bells tied under their knees, white shirts flapping.”
