Interfaces shouldn't warp, zoom, shuffle and evolve on every single interaction. Navigating apps nowadays is like solving a Rubik's cube. There's nothing simple about it. #ui

Why isn't edtech thought from this lens - novel pedagogy invention?

Why always just in terms of LMS, linear video lectures with quizes and tests or in case of india, digital cram school/exam prep

Why is it treated as something secondary to/supplementary to formal edu

John's question is exactly the kind of question you need to ask for edtech

Edtech isn't the problem, edtech that simply is a digital version of pedagogy used for "teaching to the test"/ exam oriented education is the problem.

Ideal #UI design project for me Speculating & conceiving of entirely new pedagogies via material properties unique to the computing medium, web, internet. Exploration of unique social practices of learning via computers that don't have an equivalent IRL Focus on online edu should be on using the medium's affordances to rethink pedagogies and bring one's that were not possible to implement IRL instead of just bringing that same soul sucking mindnumbing test-taking shit online
I want to see what new pedagogies can we conceive of, that aren't possible because of the physical limitations IRL but which aren't present on the computing medium, web & internet. I want to disassociate learning & teaching from big buildings, enclosed spaces, credentialism, exams, tests and the idea that it’s supposed to be done in fixed slabs

Just noticed that both WhatsApp and Signal signify who wrote a message just by aligning left for the other person and right for you, and different colours. In groups they also add names but not in 1:1s. Does everyone find that easy to understand?

So interesting, segmenting video via mindmaps instead of timestamps

"Ako Maps is a suite of learning tools that links visual diagrams to video lessons.. Ako Maps can be 'linked' to lessons. Browse the map, then click a topic to navigate directly to that topic in the video"

Agreed!

I just created a post at movement on what I called temporarily "Storytelling UI":

https://discuss.coding.social/t/radifedi-storybook-of-radically-innovative-federated-ux/323/4

For designs that have:

The is process-oriented, focuses on the interactions between people.

It is a dream, I know, but a nice one to dream about 😅

Btw, you may be interested in collective at https://malleable.systems

People there, like @khinsen are using which is also a nice idea to make highly interactive . Though I find the a bit overwhelming (can be better?)

I really like those. Esp. how 1) enables 2) and shifts focus to be intentional, triggers imagination and creativity, stimulates collaboration and co-creation.

I was inspired by @tastapod https://cupid.dev to take the concept of #JoyfulCoding one step further into the holistic idea of #JoyfulCreation involving every creator. And instead of #UI and #UX breathe life into the 'stalled' field of Social experience design #SX as a design method.

requires passwords to be between 12 and 16 characters. If you type a 17-character password, it silently drops the last character and sets your password to the first 16 characters to the password you've typed. If you miss that 16 is the MAX, later, it doesn't tell you that your password is limited to 16 characters, so you type in 17 to gain access, it doesn't truncate at that point, just refuses entry saying your password is incorrect. 🙄

I still think the swipe down from the right third to get to control center and swipe down from the remaining ⅔ to get to notifications is a terrible UX on iOS. There is no/little affordance to their behavior.

Similarly, I cannot tell you what tapping the digital crown, side button, and swiping up and down does on the Apple Watch Ultra. I just cycle thru all of them until I get the screen I’m looking for.

I noticed that #Obsidian is barely useable with keyboard navigation on iOS/iPadOS. The UI herarchy does not translate into accessible tab navigation. The deepest reachable UI element is the vault switcher menu. There is room for improvement.

I think we've reached the number of UX/UI designers required for the digital world.

Now it's time to go back to service design and urban design. There's a lot of world-mending still needed.

Victor Papanek's "Design for the real world" from 1971 is still worth reading in 2024.

The recent #UXCollective #newsletter had a sponsored post for #FigmaToWebsite by #DivRiots.

I wondered how they ensure that the output is accessible, because in the description I only found "#Accessibility features" under "Ready for production", nothing else.

So I wrote them an email asking to elaborate how they tackled #a11y for their product. Eagerly anticipating their answer!
