Why doesn't the UK build enough houses (if you think this is behind the )?

A new Competition & Markets Authority report broadly blames (as have previous reviews), the planning system, arguing that any land banking is more a symptom of problems, than a cause of lower build-outs in residential property.

For the , this handily throws the problem back to the politicians... but in the end even if the planning system was 'fixed' the problems are more complex than just that!

Question: MDF or OSB board underlayment over existing underlayment to strengthen floor?

Our house is aged and the flooring underlayment is also the finished floor, like 2" tongue and groove, and it's not holding up too well with my medical equipment.

We had extra bracing added at delicate areas between joists that was causing problems, like where my motorized wheelchair puts weird pressure. ( see below.)

Want to have new underlayment put down. Any tips. Suggestions?

How the housing industry is working to stop energy efficient homes

"Home #builders have used their political muscle to prevent states and cities from adopting the latest code, which would lower the #climate impact of new houses

#EnergyEfficiency advocates say affordability is a convenient talking point for the home builders. They say the industry is mainly concerned with its profit margins"

Cracked tiles, wonky gutters, leaning walls – why are Britain’s new houses so rubbish?

Buying a brand new property these days is often less of a dream home, more a living nightmare.

With housebuilders – and their shareholders – making huge profits, how come so many new builds aren’t up to scratch?

Shares in some of the UK’s biggest housebuilders rose sharply last month, on the news that the government proposed to relax rules that would have hindered them from polluting waterways.

Well, colour me surprised. Some of the biggest donors to Tory party coffers are construction company bosses, and an election is looming.
Meanwhile, their new developments can continue to overload local sewage systems and pollute wetlands with impunity.

Is really viable for the small to medium-sized operator?

We assert, "NO!"

We did something simple. With a Mastodon tab open we hit Ctrl+Shift+E to get the Network Tab. With an inactive thread open in Mastodon, we went to another website to read an article.

An hour passes and what we discovered shocked us. Mastodon somehow justified sending us 55MB of data. The said 55MB over 1500 requests (53MB transferred).

Sounds terrible. Like a failure of govt to allocate .

Reminds us of the 2009 "Scandal" in . Our PM and funded as many as possible to install . It was an incredibly successful but only blame Rudd for the few bad builders that abused the funding, resulting in two worker deaths and some fires.

Aussies save 30% on energy but media focus on bad apples.

FT Lex notes project planning approvals are at their lowest quarterly level for 15 years, storing up difficulties for the future as supply of new houses (built) will remain well below (claimed) Govt. targets; but this fails to consider the role of land banking.

Builders seem to delay the move from outline to detailed planning while they decide when to proceed with the project.

Its not necessarily the planners slowing things down, its ' strategic planning (to 'support' prices)
