Cory @pluralistic Doctorow: “Somewhere between replacing the system and using the system lies a pragmatic — if easily derailed — course.

“[Audre] Lorde is telling us that a rotten system can’t be redeemed by using its own chosen reform mechanisms. [Martin Luther King Jr. is] telling us that unless we live, we can’t fight — so anything within the system that makes it easier for your comrades to fight on can hasten the end of the system.”

No one does distillation quite like @pluralistic

> One old model of journalism funding involved wealthy newspaper families profiting handsomely by selling local appliance store owners the right to reach the townspeople who wanted to read sports-scores. These families expressed their patrician love of their town by peeling off some of those profits to pay reporters to sit through municipal council meetings or even travel overseas and get shot at.

Audre Lorde counsels us: "The Master's Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master's House," MLK said "the law cannot make a man love me, but it can restrain him from lynching me." Somewhere between replacing the system and using the system lies a pragmatic - if easily derailed - course.

Just drove by a church that I remembered having services all through covid. A number of their dip shit followers fucking died. They probably killed a number of other people not so foolish as to be a part of that.
The fact they did this is clear proof they value keeping people in the cult more than the lives of people in it.

Le toujours formidable Cory Doctorow aka @pluralistic sur l'usage des AI (et le fait que leur business modèle ne peut reposer que sur l'exploitation des humains, à la manière des entrepôts Amazon, au lieu de leur libération)

What's on the reading list this week. This book's on it every week of the year, I get a new one each Christmas. The cover shows the Callanish (Calanais) standing stones in the Outer Hebrides on the Isle of Lewis. I saw the northern lights from here 30 odd years ago, a great place. Of particular note today is the spring equinox, day and night are of equal length, the sun rises due east and sets due west. Today you can memorise the compass points relative to objects where you live.

What was on the February reading list. The author is Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Bayes Business School, City, University of London and puts his finger on the subject matter in this book. The tedious, meaningless bollocks that we all appear to have to endure on a daily basis, dissected. I wasn't prepared to pay £26 to pay for this readable work based on his research so I borrowed it from the Uni library, I'll take it back if anyone wishes to read it.

Everybody's heard of a recent court ruling to hold responsible for their by now, but...

Can anything be done to ensure that the same standard is applied to the meatbag clerks at a local utilities office? Today I was given three incompatible opinions regarding a billing issue, but none of those idiots are liable for what they spew and how convenient it is that they never yield any written statements, it's all just advice.
