Yet again the #Guardian shows it's unionist anti-Scotland #bias by failing to mention that it is #Scotland that leads the #UK in access to #EV#charging points.
#California is drafting rules requiring charging companies to provide reliability data for publication, according to Energy Commissioner Patty Monahan.
"Electric vehicle #charging networks should be regulated to ensure reliability so drivers are comfortable buying the battery-powered cars essential to meeting the state’s ambitious climate targets."
Rented a Chevy Bolt EUV for this overnight stay. Drove it about 40 miles.
Found a ChargePoint near the airport rental return to top it off.
First charger wouldn’t connect. Says the charger isn’t “fully inserted.” I have a plug in hybrid at home, so I know how these things work.
Switched to the second charger (of 2), and it started right up. Says it will take … wait for it … TWO AND A HALF HOURS to put 40 miles back on the battery.
Here we goooooo!! Canada is expected to announce this week that all new cars must be zero emissions by 2035. Only 12 years left to buy a gas guzzler, people!
My province: population density ~= 1.7 people / km ^ 2. And the population here is concentrated heavily in the southern third of the province - up north, it's 0.2 or 0.1 people / km^2.
For large areas of my province, it will never be #economically feasible to build #charging infrastructure for #EVs.

Could we end up with smaller batteries and roads that charge vehicles wirelessly? A bit hard to imagine right now, but some researchers and companies suggest it would work and would be more efficient.
“it ends up being much cheaper to build infrastructure that everyone uses, rather than pay money for lots of large batteries... The technology can do it. Can we get the political alignment to make it happen?” https://www.marketplace.org/2023/10/30/wireless-charging-electric-vehicles/

The French government announced new funding for the roll-out of electric vehicle charging points to match the pace set by the EU’s new alternative fuel infrastructure regulation.
France aims to have over 400,000 electric vehicle charging points on its road network by 2030.
Today, the public network has more than 110,000 charging points, making France the second best-equipped country in Europe, behind the Netherlands and ahead of Germany.
Remember: At peak-efficiency taxis literally only.stop and turn off engines to offload/onload passengers change drivers, refuel or do unavoidable maintenance.
I'm going to have a bit of a #tech#rant (less charitable people might say #whine) here. If you just want jokes and cute bunny pictures, feel free to skip this one.
Object of my #ire this week? #Furnaces. I'm not even going to rant about their main control boards; most of that's been said better than I could say it, by others with more knowledge than I.
As you might have #guessed, the motor in my other furnace #failed last week.
I've removed it from the furnace and #tested it, and just like the first one, the motor itself checks out fine - no #electrical or #mechanical#problems at all.
The #electronics in it have failed. And only a few months after the other one. It's almost like they're #designed to #fail; otherwise, how could you make a ton of #money by #charging#monopoly prices for what is otherwise a #generic 1/2 HP motor?
Typically, it takes around 10 hours to charge an electric vehicle. Even with fast-charging techniques, you're still looking at a minimum of 30 minutes – and that's if there's an open spot at a charging station.
Last night my 18-year old came up to me pretty shaken, and with a slightly fried finger: The USB (C?) cable attached to his Hyper-X gaming headset had exploded at the connector next to his ear whilst playing!
He was charging it via PC at the time. Honestly, I thought the voltage from USB ports were so low that this would be next to impossible.
Anyway, be careful out there and disconnect all your charging devices before going to bed!
Plugable, one of the cable makers I like (they include durable labels so you know max power, data speed, USB-C vs Thunderbolt) has some new options. My fave: a 240W USB-C extension cord with built-in power gauge. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CD8X5235
#Xiaomi13Ultra charges with up to 25W via #PowerDelivery. It's not perfect but solid. My #vivo only took up to 10W, so it's a noticeable upgrade! I also have the feeling that this way if charging is healthier than with the 90W charger... Let's see.
Does anyone know a good recent article about battery health / charging? 👀
The German government approved the allocation of €57 billion in investments to tackle climate change, as Berlin pursues the goal of reaching greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045.
The money will go into the Climate and Transformation Fund, which was originally created in 2010.
A large portion of the funding boost will go to the construction industry, to make new and old buildings greener.
