Morning Mastodonians!

I had one of my quietest mornings ever between the pipes this morning but a few unfortunate bounces led to a 3-2 loss. Bounces off skates, crossbars, and even my D's stick led to 3 early goals. But they skated hard in front of me and I probably faced another 10 shots max the rest of the morning. We managed 2 goals but couldn't get the tying one across. 15 skaters is probably my least favorite number. The season is winding down with a whimper. 2 more skates.

jda,

We had an excellent last night, trying a new Chinese place. They made a good scorpion bowl and the Hunan dishes were spicy and delish. Fish, chicken, and pork belly were all excellent. We will be back. The only downer was when the guy sitting next to G at the bar proudly proclaimed himself a T**mp man. Well, G jumped on him, asking him how he liked the great economy and the record stock market. He mumbled something about not following it and then moved to the other end of the bar!

Morning Mastodonians!

Serious Sam 4's Chapter 8, Machina Ex Deus (ha ha), is really kicking 4 Guys Co-op around. We did make it to the boss both times we played last night, but without enough extra lives to take it down. Two parts of the level are just completely insane. The first part is where waves of kleers come at you and then attack drones are added in seriously deranged numbers. Then we are locked in a field, where waves of kamikazes and gnarrs are followed by a werebulls and robots.

jda,

Not much planned for . I already took the dogs out for , as the rain is moving in. I didn't take them yesterday despite the glorious weather and I felt bad, so I wanted to make sure we made it out today. For , we'll either do the local tequila bar (a really great place to go) or try another Chinese joint. Still looking for a replacement for Fuloon, which had great scorpion bowls and transcendent Hunan dishes. Places we've tried have one or the other.

Date night with my wife at Painting With A Twist in . We choose the fluorescent painting class because it's cool, man!

We followed along and painted with an instructor following a template, creating passable art. They also had a Lego Deadpool Bob Ross figurine to Cheer us on. Fun event.

As my first painting experience, I did like the funky texture on my moon and comet behind it. It really pops under the black light!

Later in the painting process with my wife's and my painting. The water is now filled in on the bottom half. Trees and mountains are visible. A textured moon in the sky.
A miniature Deadpool Lego figurine dressed up like Bob Ross.
Final picture under black light. The picture highlights glow, and so do the paint plates on the table underneath the easel.

A gentle reminder to all the adults that forget things and also think they are indestructible: wear eye protection when playing nerf gun battles because age does not in fact mean appropriate aim is actually a thing. -sincerely, my right eye.

Friday night, my SIL watched all four of my kids. So, my wife & I went out for Japanese food. We got ramen, gyoza, and chashu buns. All so good. We also got a spicy tuna roll.

10/10. All around nice to get out without the kids (which is not common) and the food was very good. Would do again...eventually :Hehe:

Needed a break yesterday so we went "Begyle Brewing" near the Irving Park Brown Line. Chicago has a great craft beer scene and @seanbala is following the "Chicago Brew Pass" from "Choose Chicago" - this is our third one! We got some excellent Begyle Blonde Ale (according to @dohappybelove it has hints of rose and honey). The atmosphere was really relaxed and cozy.

A photo of the inside of the brewery. The space is large and open. At the center of the background is a man at the counter and the bartender pointing up at the board with all the beers. In the foreground are some wooden tables with green chairs.

We were feeling spontaneous and so went to "Orange Garden" for vegetable Lo Mein with Tofu. Founded in 1932, Orange Garden is Chicago's oldest Chinese restaurant. It has iconic neon signs, large portions, and an interior that has not changed much in 90 years. Excellent food at a great Chicago institution!

3/3

Another neon sign that reads Chop Suey in red lights and To take home in blue lights.
A very delicious plate of Lo Mein noodles with tofu and vegetables.

Könnt ihr mit Romantik was anfangen?

HistoPol,
@HistoPol@mastodon.social avatar

@Tami

Kommt darauf an, was genau du damit meinst.

Unsurprised that the Indian restaurant near our house makes better fries than the local prestige burger joint. Not only that, but they are tossed in tikka seasoning and come with a cucumber dill yogurt sauce. Feeling very spoiled right now.

Last night my wife and I played Forbidden Desert. I vastly prefer it to Forbidden Island but it took us the whole game to realize we were accidentally cheating and only drawing 1/3rd of the Danger cards we were meant to! 😅

Another of the thousands of love letters from the audience to the city of San Francisco.
“Dear SF,
I am so happy and lucky to have grown up here! You are funky, vibrant, and beautiful. Is your public school district system too hard to teach in? Yes. Are your rent prices too high? Yes. Would I love anywhere else? No! Thanks for being the most amazing and wonderful place.”
