Internet platforms have reached end-stage enshittification, where they claw back the goodies they once used to lure in end-users and business customers, trying to walk a tightrope in which there's just enough value left to keep you locked in, but no more. It's ugly out there.

Fucking Christ the @protocol is the most obtuse crock of shit I've ever looked at. It is complex solely for the sake of being complex and still suffers from all of the same problems as Mastodon.

Your server goes down? Sorry, all of your followers are lost. Account portability is no better than Mastodon. 'DIDs' serve literally no purpose. And none of the API code that Bluesky uses in their own app validates ANY of the crypto they're doing on the server. NONE OF IT.

I think they will look more at the smelling than the wildflower smelling as culture pushes over tech, and we are working in a broken culture. Not saying the is bad, just it's a hard sell to head down worshippers, this is why we have they are selling, it's not tech.

"Google is still the web’s biggest and most influential company. But across the publishing industry, it’s no longer seen as a partner. AMP ultimately neither saved nor killed the open web. But it did kill Google’s good name — one not-that-fast webpage at a time."

The is the internet where information and content is accessible to all, regardless of their location, device or network, and can be shared, linked, and re-used without restrictions or barriers imposed by proprietary platforms, walled gardens, or monopolistic practices. It is based on and aims to provide a more inclusive, equitable, and participatory world.

Hamishcampbell,

The is often contrasted with the or “walled garden web”, where content and data are locked behind proprietary platforms, controlled by corporations or governments, and subject to limitations, restrictions, and surveillance. The

We typically found little to be confusing about your hashtags, once you explained them. For example, we didn't understand what you meant by until you linked it to notions of individualism.

We absolutely love your tag to describe the likes of the (eg. Cloudflare-Amazon-Google-TwitterBuyer-Microsoft-Apple-Fakebook-IBM-Akamai cabal).

We will continue to use that hashtag until the threat of is over.

The is a collection of decentralized social networking platforms that use , allowing people to communicate and share content across different networks. These platforms are designed to be community-driven and to prioritize native culture, which is inherently unfriendly to capitalism.

Hamishcampbell,

These new protocols need to say more about their alignment with capitalism, it is important for developers and marketers to be transparent about their values and business models so that people can make informed decisions about the technologies they use.

We need to make a clear step away from the that have wasted our society for the last 20 years.

witchescauldron, to fediverse

Projects are all based on ideology- is capitalism, monetization is a core priority, just like twitter they are leaving it out at the start as the usual bait and switch.

The tech might be different, but the world view is in a bad way.

The is built on a different world-view which is why it is important, the tech in both cases is secondary.

Towards the end of December 2019 I did a whole thread on Twitter, essentially reviewing the decade as ‘The Decade of Dishonest Technology’. It didn't start with that decade, and it hasn't stopped since, but it was the decade that got bought, and then sold everything about us under false pretenses, whether for state or corporate purposes.

It was the decade of technology that wasn't only biased, but straight up lied to us. Lies that most of us didn't really care about, as long as they didn't hit our own wallet.

Strap in, I am reviewing and updating the whole thread for the Mastodon Age.

Why is Mastodon so dominant in the fediverse?

    Hamishcampbell,

@raucao if you wonder what the "problem" is? It's that for the last 40 years the domanet ideology has been neo-liberalism which has proven to be a , look at movement for factual information on this.
