ICYMI: if you are a textile artist, you might appreciate this piece by Elena Kanagy-Loux.

"My Grandma’s Doilies Are Not a Joke

When will art institutions finally pay respect to our foremothers’ artistry?"

@mem_somerville It makes me sad to read that this behaviour exists. Could it be a cultural problem?
I volunteer in a French centre + (early 20th c.) with two international festivals + never ever experienced this. Not only that in France ancient and skills are strongly supported, meanwhile many institutions look for people who can still teach these skills. Our group (the youngest 61) can hardly save itself from requests for presentations in

Finally, my best tip. If you're lucky enough to be bought an adjustable tailor's dummy for Christmas, make sure you take your measurements like I did, early on Boxing Day. You may be horrified at the time but now I feel smug knocking off a few centimetres without suffering too much dieting hell.

Second arm finished...I'm calling it 'heart on my sleeve' as I've managed to incorporate an anatomical heart and a swirly one. There's a brain at the top...

First sleeve completed apart from a bit of surface work. A lot of Georgia O'Keeffe-type spirals. Big shout out to all the independent dyers and spinners this yarn came from. When it's finished, I'll post links to them.

One yarn I can't get away with is cotton. I had to really force myself to finish this evil eye granny square blanket. It was from Hobbii and 70% off! Was making 2 freeform cushions with leftovers but have hidden them under the bed. I like a bit of give in yarns. Also a super chunky premium acrylic which crocheted up like a board. Never again.

- my favourite yarns generally are Superwash Merino/nylon blends by independent dyers. This lot are all 4-ply (fingering) weight. The intense red is called 'Furnace' by @mothyandthesquid. Also love anything tactile and soft!

@fibrearts @crochet I'm attempting to improve my crochet skills and have decided to make a blanket of granny squares using different styles, stitches techniques. Does anyone have any recommendations or links for books, patterns, resources etc? There are no wrong answers. I really want to learn as wide a variety as possible. Even if it's not a "granny" square pattern, I want to fins ways of making things work.

Progress report on new project. Top of the back and both arms shown, in double knit hand-dyed merino, also chunky recycled plastic bottles and a bit of metallic/Angora. Inspiration... Georgia O'Keeffe, body parts in a grey/red palette. The rest of the yarn is a lighter 4-ply. I needed a heavier yarn for everything to hang from. Much more surface work to do on the joined scrumbles.

Talk about an ambitious project! New Zealand artists Lissy Robinson-Cole and Rudi Robinson crocheted a full-size Wharenui Harikoa or House of Joy which celebrates Māori cultural traditions from 5,000 balls of wool.

So, this is my school blazer. I last wore it in 1981. After I took it off I put it in the loft as a sentimental keepsake. Now, 42 years later, I've taken it out and am wondering why the hell I'm keeping it. No one else is ever going to want it. But it's tricky to throw away having kept it for so long. So what do I do? My current plan is to keep it in sight until I get fed up of it and then bin it. Ideas?
