After a couple of weeks break from posting a blog, I'm back.
This week's blog post is my roadtrip to the 45˚ Fibre Festival in Gore at the beginning of May. It features knitting and spinning and buying crafty things, and winning a raffle prize.
🧶 It's done! Yarn re-skeined on swift from ball I wound months ago, washed in Eucalan, dried thoroughly (it fluffed up, so nice!), re-wound just now into a ball.
@fibrearts@spinning I’m spinning during this set of nights. This is “Purple Teepee” by John Arbon. 50% merino and 50% Jacob. This was from their special last year and I’ve got 600g to spin up. #spinning#yarn#fibrearts#handspun
Join me for Romi Hill's #MKAL - "Way Leads On To Way!" Starts this coming Friday, April 26th.
🧶 Two color crescent shawl
🧶 Extremely well planned in all respects
🧶 Lots of #YouTube & #Ravelry posts
🧶 New techniques
🧶 Many participants
🧶 Scaled pattern pricing
🧶 Kits
🧶 Not too hard 😊
I’m looking for fediverse accounts to follow for inspiration in my new leisure interest: #knitting#socks. I’ve made two pairs so far and am looking for help and style variations, as well as tips to improve my technique.
@ellane Here are a whole bunch of hashtags to check out. Not all relevant to socks but all are fiber arts related. Welcome to this wild and woolly world!
@spinning This is my spinning for tonight. It’s an old bump from Hilltop Cloud and is much last (for now) odd 100g bump. My next spinning will be for a garment. #spinning#handspun#handmade
Wait, what, you can make fabric from kudzu!? This seems like a skill we should reclaim immediately and get to decimating the invasive plant in the south of the US…! (I now wonder if it’s here because - like the invasive blackberry in the west - people brought it here because of its usefulness.) #fiberArt#spinning#weaving
I filled up a bobbin for the first time! This one is some BFL I am pretty sure I bought when I still lived in TX. (So, old) woo! #handspinning#spinning
@spinning Last night’s 100g finished and plied. This is “Singer” from Hilltop Cloud. I can’t remember the blend but there was something a bit toothy in it.#spinning#fibre#handspun#handspinning
Very interesting - using S and Z spun singles for #weaving.
So many ideas to explore. #fibercraft has endless potential of going down rabbit holes and side rabbit holes of rabbit holes. And then side side holes ...
@fibrearts My spinning for tonight is glorious. It was a gift from my sister and is from Crafty Cat Fibre. It’s grey Corriedale so it’s going out with a dark undertone which I love. Especially because it’s coming out as a dark rainbow ❤️🌈 #spinning#fibrearts#fibrecrafts
@fiberart@spinning I appear to be spinning frog hair but I love how pretty this is coming out. The blend is 25% Faroe Island Wool, 13% Tussah Silk and 62% Shetland and it’s fascinating to spin. It’s very crisp and the Faroe Island Wool is new to me and has a really interesting handle. #spinning#yarn
Today has been cognitively difficult (lots of unrelated problems) but I'm off the clock for the work parts at least so time for a spinning break even though what I really need is a nap.
Might be that I already shared it here since time ago. But I love this video so, so much. Those ladies are just delightful. And let's celebrate it - this is now 60 years old. How things have changed. And haven't changed.
And I'm in total awe about their skill as both spinner and knitter.
That's the last two handspun minis for the chunky cowl I'm making! This has been such a delight to make and it's incredibly satisfying to watch my stash get used up so fast. Pity I don't really need more bulky yarns right now!
