#WIPWednesday This is going to be a shrug for my partner's mother. The color is not quite accurate, it's more of a lilac. I spun the yarn from a merino silk blend. It bloomed so much more than I expected, I was trying for sport weight, but the recipient is always cold, so this will be fine. #knitting#handspinning#handmade
This is what one #cat can do to a hank of freshly spun yarn, in only a few seconds, while it's soaking in the sink. I want to cry. But I didn't traumatize the kitty, because I am a saintly human being. #handspinning#handmade
Cast this off today and sewed in the loose ends. Tomorrow I'll wash and dry it, and post another pic. The off white yarn is handspun and still has a lot of lanolin in it, so it's a bit stiff. Looking forward to seeing it after I give it a good soak.
Its the Tidvatten Tide on Ravelry, and uses short rows to create the curve. Brilliant, simple design.
I finally got all the kinks worked out on my spinning wheel and was actually able to spin up a little tiny bit of fiber ... Before I promptly broke the yarn 🤣
Going to go pick up a bulk batch of alpaca roving today!
I don't need all 20lbs of it, so I guess uhhhh are there any #HandSpinner in the Grand Rapids -> Lansing area of Michigan who want to split it with me? I can bring it to you.
And to finish up my Big Fiber Day: I labeled and stored my clean wool. Unfortunately it's going to have to sit in storage until I get my hands on a drum carder.
We got:
12oz of Lincoln cross (started with 18oz = 66.67% yield)
5.89oz of Jacob (started with 8oz = 73.6% yield)
20g bags of Alpaca/Lincoln blends for test swatching (80/20, 70/30, 60/40, and 50/50)
1st bag of fleece sorted. It was about 1/3 black and 2/3 white. The second bag is overflowing and I have a feeling I'm going to end up with more bags of fiber than I started with 😅
Hi! I’m Violinknitter, and I joined Mastodon in one of the fall 2022 Twitter exoduses. I found a fairly comfy little niche, and have been chattering happily here ever since.
My new (old) Bulgarian #spindles arrived! This is will be my first time in a while to do supported spinning on pure wood ones - usually I prefer those with a metal tip, for better wear. I got these off of Etsy - with where I'm located, sourcing this sort of thing is still best done there. I thought I was fully sorted on my spindle collection and then... of course I lost one. 2nd pic: my current in-progress. Yes, I'm back on fine lace spinning! #HandSpinning#YarnSpinning#SpindleSpinning#FiberArts
My interests include working with all things fiber, from processing local raw wool sustainably at Ethical Yarn Community to #spinning / #handspinning on my Ashford Joy 2 to #knitting#crochet#NeedleFelting and soon embarking on rigid heddle #weaving and maybeeee natural dyeing
Pls also meet my #cat Norman who models my projects
It took me far too long to get to it, but tonight I finally blocked the handspun rainbow blanket!! ✨🌈✨ It was definitely not quite a square before I pinned it out so I hope when it dries it'll keep this shape. #knitting#handspinning
OC Welcome to FiberArts!
Hello fiber artists!...
