British Columbia's 2021 heat dome killed people w. schizophrenia at a higher rate than those w. other chronic illness. During the heat dome's hottest eight days 134 people diagnosed with schizophrenia died, 3x the avg. # of deaths during the same period 2006-2020

Heat stress / heat stroke tips.

Note: I am NOT a medical doctor / professional. Just some common-sense precautions.

  • Hydrate: drink plenty of water (not excessively); if you sweat noticeably more just after drinking, you may be dehydrated.

  • Shady, cool ground (grass) is cooler.

  • Evaporating water sucks up heat (endothermic); wet a towel with cold water, drape over head / body; let evaporate. Repeat frequently.

  • Cold (cool) showers, of course. Or tub / lake ...
