@Linux_Is_Best Looks like I hit a window of availability where I can spin up a second Oracle Always Free VM. The only Debian-like option is unfortunately Ubuntu so I'll spin it up and see where I go. If it works, perhaps I can move my #masto instance to the cloud.
How do you do your alt texts when there is text on the image?
(what I meant by 'description' is other elements within the image, e.g. the text is in a dialogue box, or a website, or there is a pen beside the book, etc)

C'est un vieux wiki Y50 sous Android Oreo (8). Je ne pense pas avoir activer les options développeurs car je l'avais déjà réinitialiser pour qu'il serve de tel de secours.

A breve pubblicheremo le linee guida (non vincolanti) per la gestione degli hashtag, chiarendo anche gli enormi benefici che apporteranno (se seguite) agli utenti di M1.

@edo78@unoacademy@ctbk@steek_hutzee in realtà #masto* non ha mai tirato tantissimo perchè non tutte le istanze sono #mastodon e anzi pareva discriminatorio per chi usa altre piattaforme, noi possiamo aggiungere #Uno* per raggruppare i nostri pensieri d'istanza, è una alternativa slow alla frenesia social per chi vuole mantenere una dimensione più intima. Ma si possono aggiungere #hashtag senza prefisso se si vuole diffonderlo il più possibile in tutte le istanze, anche quelle non mastodon!
One thing that was really great on #masto and then #pixelfed was the ability to use the browser.
As we're seeing new social media contenders(threads) illustrate, companies want you to use the app, not a browser. Far more data is available to them to exploit.
As we move forward with #defederation#FOSS#adfree and #privacy I'd like to remind developers that they don't need to compete with "apps." We should be sharing the message about their faults.
I don't like when people claim mastodon doesn't work, because mastodon works an order of magnitude better for me than literally every other social media platform I've used, including pre-Musk Twitter where I had twice as many followers as I do here
@eniko Fully agree. I'm always a little confused about people complaining about this. I have far more and higher quality interactions on #masto than any other platform and I haven't even been here for two full months. Maybe has a bit to do with instance, but probably mostly the user's choice to engage. The learning curve is not that steep.
1/ So I've spent a whole day on #Threads and I've realized:
Joining #Masto is like being invited to an open house party where you say hello and everyone says hi back and offers you a cheese hors d'ouevres and a drink and then you sit back and let the chatter wash over while you sit on the couch
3/ On #masto, after a while you're sitting on that couch but this time you've also collected a bunch of fellow weirdos and you're all happily geeking out about the same thing
On #threads, sure you might find your people but you can't hear each other over all the fucking screeching
4/4 but the thing is, both #masto and #threads are neighbors with #twitter, which is like that one creepy house in every neighborhood that all the kids are told to avoid but you KNOW they dare each other to go and poke the crazy Nazi yelling in the basement
what mobile app are y'all using for masto? i've been using amaroq for years and usually find it overall very agreeable, but over the past few days (rate limit thing on twitter happening) it has NOT been launching successfully.
recommendations//thoughts//etc appreciated. please bear in mind i am not tech savvy so your response must be understandable to a mid-century farmer.
I’m seeing a LOT of posts about another major wave of new #Mastodon accounts, but I have to wonder. Is anyone tracking any influx to #Calckey? And should we prepare for more migrations from #Masto to here?
All this conversation about #Meta on #Fedi feels like the worst parts of geek culture. So technical, without understanding context or what strikes can actually do. My thoughts:
Meta will make a great app for Fedi because it has more money to throw at the task. People will start using that because it's better. It will have QTs and an algorithm. People they want to follow will be there.
People will be divided between interoperability with #Meta and alternative clients. They will like the no ads stuff on #Masto, but at first the ads on #P92 will be promoted posts and will actually be useful. It will be reliable. Small servers on #Mastodon will collapse because of rapid growth, difficulty in moderation, attacks by right-wing trolls. People will want reliability and move to the meta thing, because it's just easier.
I am learning what it is like to be a #masto#admin. And it ain't easy. For some reason media is not rendering correctly so I am running some long processes to hopefully fix the issue.
