Fifth month of using for my daily work driver which includes lots of work as well as plugging into several different types of usb-a and usb-c hubs in office spaces, connecting displays, webcams and mics. It all just works. Except for that one screen which required me to install a driver from a download site.

I remember toying with Red Hat 5 circa 1998. truly has come a long way.

Really impressive. The german state Schleswig Holstein is rolling out their Open Source strategy. https://www.schleswig-holstein.de/DE/landesregierung/ministerien-behoerden/I/Presse/PI/2024/CdS/240403_cds_it-arbeitsplatz.html

TL;DR "It's only the start to migrate 30000 municipal and state computers from to .
It will be followed by switching from to , from to the collaboration platform , from proprietary to and from to with AD-Connector.
A libre service like will be implemented and telephone systems instead of bought. Governmental office software will follow."

Microsoft :blobfoxnerd:

Microsoft:

As much as I love retro computing and emulation, but installing Microsoft Word 97 from 19!!! disks still feels a bit like a chore.

Note from Microsoft: “Users may experience delays of up to 30 minutes receiving messages in Microsoft Teams for any connection method.”

So much for “instant messaging.”

I have got a question for all the #tech people out there with experience regarding #hp and #Linux

#Windows11 is being rolled out and I probably will have to set up my Laptop again. Never used #Linux on a PC, so how about:

Do #Linux distributions support HP omen 17 (2019) ?

If so, which one would you recommend for chiefly MS Office use (64-bit Excel a must) ?

How difficult is a set-up for a non-IT pro who has always worked with Windows (but installed systems)?

@yaldi

That 2013 works with is good to know.
I will not throw away old licenses then.
For work, though, no go. I have been using the 64bit version since 2019 (and would like to have a 128bit version not infrequently 😉.)
