A buck a year!

Finally, someone understands the value of requiring someone to pay "SOMETHING", in order to alleviate and hold people posting their thoughts accountable as the individuals that have done so.

It's a proven concept by the Foundation that has proven that even some pittance of monetary consideration breaks Spam because Spammers follow the path of least resistance (zero cost).

Thanks !

Valentine's Day breakfast, 2018.

My wood fired stove and oven.

Everything is better when it's cooked in an .

I baked a few cakes in that oven, which is a real challenge - adjusting the type and amount of wood in the firebox as well as the redirect of the heat to the oven box.

It takes constant attention. The first cake, I had to cut out the center, which wasn't done, like a bundt cake.

A couple of years back in Eureka with a lady friend who was showing me around on a cultural stroll.

This back alley mural is an homage to Eleanora Fagan, one of my great musical influences, and one of the most celebrated jazz singers of all time.

At the bottom of the frame you'll notice the two rails, the wooden cross ties long since buried beneath the asphalt of the alley. I stood wondering for a very long time why there was literally no clearance for passing trains.

I read that they evacuated everyone way out in yesterday, not that anyone can stand living there anymore, but does that mean it got filled up with water again?

Uh, Oh! We've Ratcheted up to a threat now on Adblock and UblockOrigin...

Soft landings usually mean it doesn't hurt very much at first, then perhaps the event becomes more frequent and escalates to something that looks like the attached screenie...

When this happens, you may wish to avail yourself of some of the alternatives below.

Once you get here you're faced with trying options or even becoming disenfranchised. Switching to another browser is a prudent test, some have suggested pasting links into Incognito Mode tabs or logging out, while others have claimed that stock Brave Browser seems to humming along for them; and third party utils from among the list that follows:

Web based:

Android (both are available at F-Droid):

Desktop:

Browser extension (a native, local, cross-platform solution):

  • AdNauseam
This last option is a simple browser extension that is apparently quite popular with folks, levying its own ethical pressure upon those who would force-feed you with data mined ad generation. The README file has some great information on the methodology incorporated.

On , I haven't been presented with any of these foreboding pop ups warning me about blockers. I typically use or Browser, they're stock, but I use the YouTube app more than I do any one of my browsers on my phones.

I also run the "App Tracking Protection service". This is NOT , so your choices are either installing from the or Google Playstore, yet there's no requirement to use the browser to enable this protection - it's not for your browsers though (even DDG), it is designed to work with pretty much everything on your Android EXCEPT browsers; i.e., almost all of your installed apps, seamlessly, and since most folks stream YouTube videos through the Google YouTube Android app, I surmise that it targets and obliterates ads in the app (I haven't confirmed the veracity of that, it's merely supposition, but it blocks zillions of attempts by installed apps to phone home).

I'm Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, personal observations, and concerns; other toolsets or applications that meet your needs, and why you may have chosen those particular types of tools.

I hope that helps!

Ah... now that was enough wood for about three weeks.

Oak, Doug fir, and Madron, bucked and split and stacked up on my porch like a solid wooden brick, 7½' high x12' wide x 6' deep.

That's a lot of fucking fire !

Everything I cooked and all of my heat came from that wood stack.

The Piggy Opera!

I made the mistake of originally publishing this photo at http://www.viewbug.com/photo/5280904 back in December, 2013 - don't do that! Viewbug kinda really sucks and you can't even download your own photos. Here's the specs I have on this:

From, "The Piggy Opera", Concordia Elementary School, San Clemente, California.

The tell tale signs of a child who still sucks her thumb is apparent in this portrait of a girl with a starring role in a school play.

KODAK DC4800 ZOOM DIGITAL CAMERA
Aperture f/4.5 Shutter 1/250

  • We didn't really have a back then, although we did have a few platforms that still exist and are the major parts of the Fediverse today, such as (had a couple of name changes since then), StatusNet/PumpIO, etc., but none of that is really important.

  • This is the first photo of a series - I'm prolly going to try out "collections" and make this part of one. I still have a bad taste left in my mouth from the days when they launched collections, but I digress.

  • The Piggy Opera was her first grade school play, and from an age of innocence that eventually evolves into some awareness on the childs part that I think most parents loathe - we always wish for them to remain the "Itty Bitty Baby" that we carried everywhere on one arm; and this was in the last months of when she was still light enough for me to carry her everywhere.

Jake Edward Brown, AKA Thomas Tracy Burum, died in 2003.

He was 36 years old when he murdered Teri Lynn Hollis on Thanksgiving Day 1972.

He got away with and wasn't identified until 11 September 2019.

Teri and I were the same age, 11 years old. she was my neighbor, abducted from my neighborhood, raped, strangled, and her body was discovered the next day, dumped on the rocks at the beach.

My parents put me on lockdown after that, and it has haunted me my entire life.

Freak structure failure on the schooner Grace Bailey minutes from her home port. A local doctor was killed by the mast's crash to the deck.

My sister's friend Charlie, an EMT and all around capable dude on land and sea, was the first on the scene. Super sad.

#Evacuation day - orders were actually issued two days beforehand but I was only alerted about an hour before taking this pic and others.

My truck is fire engine red, and as such it was almost invisible. You can see that inside my cabin the air is clear (through the window), while outside the air is the color of Satan.

The #August_Complex was swift and deadly, destroying most everything in its path.

I opened the chicken coop and bade them good luck & farewell forever

Only $99 - My dad bought one. I still have it. Nobody else on my block had one. He also bought me a Timex Sinclair computer when those first came out.

So I would have been about 11 years old. By comparison, my daughter had a supercomputer about the exact same size when she was 11.

I posted earlier on this here: https://friends.grishka.me/posts/452946 , but for some reason I'm unable to boost it here.

Labradoodles? Poodales?

I dunno if these are poodles crossed with labrador retrievers, some white, some chocolate labs, or Airedales.

The sight of 8 big dogs of this size just jumping into a tiny hatchback sedan (one in the front passenger seat) from a single command by their owner leaving the wholesale commercial grocery outlet in Arcata California.

Their level of obedience, organized discipline, from roaming the parking lot to this astounding shot - Priceless!
