Did you notice? We have almost 5.000 followers!
Now we're wondering: might we find among you (or your network) two experienced UX/UI designers who are willing to engage in a 6-month volunteer project? We need to come up with a way to fit a bunch of new functionality into the already busy player screen. We're looking for two people (one for each role) to help us with this.
Interested? More info? Send a DM or email keunes@mailbox.org.
Boosts appreciated!

Question for the web design people in the fedi: Is anything shown in (the solid lines in) this drawing something you'd refer to as a "breadcrumb"?

I've been using :AntennaPod: @AntennaPod for some years now and It's truly a legend in podcast world, but it suffers from one single and very tiny UI design flaw (which is understandable in such FLOSS and volunteer-based projects): some buttons are virtually hidden unless you know where to look for them.

One of the features that many podcast apps have is the ability to archive podcasts (i.e out of sight, out of mind, but keep my stats and progress).

Today I began building a native icon manager app for Linux.
On MacOS, I relied on IconJar to select icon sets that fitted different visual styles. It also gave me lightning-fast access to glyphs I would use over and over again, like arrows and chevrons.
While we have Norde Source for Linux, sadly:

@inkscape has quickly become one of my favourite design tools. The "Power stroke" live path effect allows you to turn a simple curvy stroke into a dynamic, sweeping form.

  1. Draw a curvy line using the pencil or the pen tool
  2. Open the "Path effects" panel
  3. Search for the path effect "Power stroke"
  4. Using the Node Tool (A), drag the purple handles to adjust the tapering

Video walking through the steps written to use the "Power stroke" live path effect in Inkscape. At the end of the walkthrough, I scroll through several example of swooping black lines with varying stroke thicknesses. No audio.

I wish I understood why people use the dark themes on their OSes, apps, and websites. I truly don't get it because my eyes can't process information as fast as they can on a white background with black letters. I don't consider the dark themes to be the natural default for human eyes. Maybe for owls...

User experience mini-rant:

Since the latest "update," when I type in Excel, the new entry shows up in 11-point Calibri until I hit enter or tab (at which point it turns into the proper size and typeface).

It's ugly and annoying.

Is this a ham-handed way to push us all to use Calibri? An oversight? Surely, no one thought this would be something users would like, right?

Has anyone here used Figma? What to do when there is no Add Flow Starting Point? Currently I can only have one flow and need multiple.

Today, I heard that a client’s team has growing indicators that end users want less pages of minimal content and no scrolling (which leads to more clicks) and more single page, no click pages with lots of scrollable content. Has anyone heard similar inklings? Any UX/web designers seeing similar trends?
