I've been thinking I need a #fun side project for when I'm not feeling working on big things. I have the source #code for a few old #DOS #games I've hacked on a few times.

The games were written in #QuickBasic (and it's predecessors) and in the past I've used #QB64 to get them running natively on Windows....

Now I'm thinking of using an #LLM (e.g. like that powering #github #copilot) to translate the code into a modern language.

Now the is, what should I use? The are simple turn-based , I'm open to using an if necessary, but think that , , etc. are overkill / not great fits.

Wondering what folks think is a good language to develop these games in?

, , C++, JS/TS, and C# are the five that come to the forefront of my mind.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Primed up the miniatures that'll keep me busy through to the new year. One not pictured as I knocked it in the floor and discovered how brittle resin is.

Fighters of the Pacific is a clever game chronicling the rivalry between Captain Cheekbones and Lieutenant Hōbone.

We've played each of the first three scenarios twice, swapping sides for the second game. In each scenario, the same side won both games, raising questions about balance.

Revolution might not be televised, but apparently genocide will be mathwashed.

From the team behind "we kill people based on metadata", a new exciting project: "we kill people based on… we don't even know what, it's a 2bln parameters black box that we have no real way of actually understanding."

SpaceCorp first era, Mariners, complete. Going to play it one more time to make sure the rules “stick” before moving to the next era.

Early impressions: fast, addictive, fun.

Watching the movie and thinking about the surge of tourists to the NORAD facility that were super disappointed when they discovered the real War Room still looked like the early 1960s

Working on a megaboss for , and it's illegal to build an ork kit entirely to instructions in my house, so we've got Da Silva Boss.

He survived a run-in with a Grey Knight strike squad on a space hulk, which inspired him to adapt his own armour to match theirs, as they were dead good at krumping the weird gits.

It's I'm starting this month of daily solo gaming with one of my favorite games of 2023: Measure of the Earth from @MarcFigueras @zweigefuhle and the SNAFU Design team. Trying to determine the shape of the Earth while managing resources and squabbling team members.

bymattkelly,

Day 9 : Playing another SNAFU game -- Azione Violenta su Barcellona -- from Nicola Saggini and Eduard Altarriba. A reminder of the brutal fascist airstrike that occurred during the Spanish Civil War. . @neildixon

bymattkelly,

Day 10 : Played The Malayan Campaign from the Battle Card series by @djackthompson @zweigefuhle and Postmark Games. Trying to lead a successful withdraw of Allied forces from the advancing Imperial Japanese Army. @neildixon

bymattkelly,

Day 12 : Playing Battle Card: Moro River from @djackthompson @zweigefuhle and Postmark Games. Assault by Canadian forces against the German army in Italy during WWII. Canadians break thru! Torre Mucchia in sight! @neildixon

bymattkelly,

Day 13 : Playing another in the Battle Card battle card series from @djackthompson @zweigefuhle and Postmark Games: Mortain. Defend against German counterattack to Normandy landing. Artillery on Hill 314 is essential. 👍 @neildixon
