It's #solotober2023 I'm starting this month of daily solo gaming with one of my favorite games of 2023: Measure of the Earth from @MarcFigueras@zweigefuhle and the SNAFU Design team. Trying to determine the shape of the Earth while managing resources and squabbling team members. #boardgames
Day 3 #Solotober2023: Playing Bismark Solitaire (the original book game) from Worthington Publishing. Going head-to-head with the British Royal Navy to see if history repeats itself. #boardgames#wargames@neildixon
In the year 2246, a small group of Earth Alliance ships are trying to escape the clutches of the Minbari. We had a game of Babylon 5 Wars, a particularly crunchy set of space combat wargame rules.
I have just been informed by people actually doing #3dprinting that resin printers can actually be got under 300€ and don't start at "several thousands" as certain people have claimed.
That's actually way cheaper than I am willing to invest into giving an old hobby another shot.
It was time for another game of Full Thrust. The ESU with large ships against the FSE with a set of smaller, faster ships. It was an attempt to see if the manoeuvrability of the FSE could overcome the long range firepower of the ESU.
Going on vacation to Italy tomorrow, with the De Bellis Antiquitates rulebook, Tony Bath's Setting up a Wargames Campaign, and the full compilation of Hyboria - The Campaign That Grew in my bag.
Are there any free rules systems for fantasy or medieval wargames that have players controlling hundreds of soldiers each and that has rules for scouting, sieges, and supplying your troops throughout a whole campaign?
Okay, I spent some hours while travelling (appropriately enough) yesterday reading the Striker II rules, and right now I think they're probably a) my preferred option and b) rather too complicated.
So obviously I'm going to see if I can simplify them while retaining the core concepts.
If that doesn't work I'll try Nordic Weasel or Battle Dress or Dirtside Zero...
The GMT Games August Customer Update, including new P500s, art samples, production and charge/ship updates, 3rd party video/review links, updated news, and more! #boardgames#wargames
Last night we got to play with my new Dirtside designed vehicles. It was a NATO v Russian forces, with some modern and near-future vehicles. Most of a unit of T-80s was wiped out, then the Russians took advantage of the closely grouped NATO units and got some really good results with their artillery and things went downhill from there.
It's difficult to fight a war when you can't roll anything higher than a 2 in most of the engagements.
“the war game was constantly improved and elaborated, until from a few hours ‘war’ took weeks to play, and the critical operations in the attic monopolized half our thoughts.”

Played a game of People Power: Insurgency in the Philippines, 1981-1986 by #gmtgames. The final campaign became a close contest between my Reformers and the Government. If the final Election card had turned over 1 card sooner victory would've been mine. Or if I had picked my different Act of Desperation. Early heavy fighting in the cities of Zamboanga and Davao. At the end the focus shifted to Manila. VP: GOV 3, REF 1, NPA -6
