The state in Brazil where I grew up is now under water. Everything I knew, the friends I had, the houses I lived, the animals I loved, the bridges I crossed, even the waterfall I used to hike by... all gone.

Everything you know, love, and work hard for can all crumble down in a matter of seconds.

It's been a tough week. 😔

20 years ago today, Microsoft announced XNA Game Studio, a free set of tools for game development, worked on Windows, Xbox 360 and Windows Phone. This tool helped thousands of devs getting started, including well know companies today. today would be very different without it.

@eniko unfortunately, there's a number of reasons we need to go back, at least for a little while, in the next two years or so. Green card shenanigans/Jay's parents/our cat and such. Staying away permanently isn't an option :(

    I went to sign some books at Woodstock's The Golden Notebook bookshop today and they gave me this book as a thank you. Two hours later her death was announced.

    So what I'm getting from a few polls I've seen is that mastodon is stuffed to the gills with old people eh?

    Kinda makes sense. Gen X and elder millennial is the sweet spot for tech savvy, much older or younger and it becomes rarer, and mastodon skews tech savvy

    I just added some light-farming to my game and I'm realizing that with player expectations, you need to go full-in with farming or not do it at all. Stupid Stardew Valley.

    @grumpygamer I think Cult of the Lamb did some good light farming. Slime Rancher 2 also gets away with a pretty light farming system. But then, what you mean by 'light' is also subjective 😅

    @maxim I studied 'computer science', cause there were 0 game dev courses in South Africa when I started studying.
    I had started programming in Turbo Pascal in high school already, cause my school had an after hours class called 'computers' 😂

    so these are interesting poll results. i'll probably do a thread later diving into the implications but the most charitable interpretation to the "covid is over" crowd i can come away with from this is:

    a significant majority of people who are more informed on covid than average are, at least to some extent, withholding their full participation in society due to the perceived dangers of contracting covid and, unlike the popular narrative, the vast majority (very nearly 7 out of 8) of them are not considered to be or do not consider themselves to be particularly vulnerable to

    @eniko so, while I'm not 'immunocompromised', my spouse is, and even with staying away from crowds and always masking, they (and subsequently I) still caught COVID.
    Since then we've both had limb numbness, often painful. I really don't want to get it a second time and risk further complications :(
