Inokashira Park Zoo in Tokyo has launched a probe after apparently massacring 31 of its 40 squirrels by mistake with treatments meant to kill parasites, officials have said. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/12/12/japan/japan-zoo-squirrel-poisoning/?utm_content=buffer83629&utm_medium=social&utm_source=mastodon&utm_campaign=bffmstdn

According to Reuters, support for Israel dropped from 41% to a dismal 32% recently and support for a cease fire is 68%.

And it doesn't fucking matter. Because cops exist.

Dawn of Everything says there are three sources of political domination (authority):

  1. Violence (sovereignty)
  2. Knowledge (bureaucracy)
  3. Charisma (elections)

Defenders of a moral vision of the US will focus on the third. "Democracy"
But when you have enough cops, popularity doesn't matter.
Only violence. Only pigs.

The reason why the Gaza death toll has been stuck at 11,000 is because the healthcare system has entirely collapsed as all hospitals are out of power, under siege, and surrounded by dead and decomposing bodies.

My question is, if the death toll was just made up by Hamas, why wouldn't Hamas simply report more deaths? If they wanted to they could easily throw out 15,000 by now as a "guess", if it was just about making stuff up to make Israel look bad. But they haven't

Extremely Online queer folks in 2023 with dishonest analysis of Rae Taylor of I'm in Love with the Villainess that somehow ignores anything Class related going on with the setting 🤝 Extremely Online feminists in 2013 with dishonest analysis of Kill la Kill that required lying about the show and somehow ignores that the antagonists are literally a representation of fascism and capitalism (something pop feminists didn't have an analysis of)

Missing the fucking point.

Aknorals,
@Aknorals@mastodon.social avatar

Rae Taylor is an extremely broken individual that covers up her genuine unselfish love up with Camp because she thinks she needs to do so to avoid bigotry. Her backstory is super messed up and she's clearly still traumatised by it all.

Like, she can't take the hints she's on the "Claire Route" even though she insists on treating the world around her like the otome game it resembles because that hope might leave her exposed emotionally.

Aknorals,
@Aknorals@mastodon.social avatar

I'm referencing, of course, to two times when one of the princes is supposed to save the protagonist of Revolution, but instead Claire Françis shows up instead.

  1. Calling for help from the slime monster and Claire actually shows up and is genuinely worried about Rae afterwords.

  2. Unreasonable foreign nobleman making literally impossible demands at the school festival, only for Claire to rescue her by speaking in his native language.

Aknorals,
@Aknorals@mastodon.social avatar

Claire François isn't a fucking clueless toddler just because she hasn't studied a fucking game religiously for years. She's literally a noblewoman in a rigid hierarchal society who actually lives in that setting. Yeah, she doesn't know what's brewing in the future, but as the story repeatedly shows, attempts to treat her as a quantifiable and perfectly calculable element will often fail when met with the situation at hand.

Aknorals,
@Aknorals@mastodon.social avatar

Now, why can't Online Commenters in 2023 understand that the sole daughter of the third most powerful noble in a fucking kingdom has class privilege?

I don't fucking know either, but it sure rhymes with dipshits in 2013 not knowing that a show that starts with a teacher talking about Hitler's rise to power is about fascism.

    @lcamtuf I hate dst so much, and I hate that current plans to "abolish it" are really plans to abolish standard time. This is especially terrible for places that are already too far west of their respective time zone, such that some places have true noon at like almost 2PM in summer.

    Aknorals,
    @Aknorals@mastodon.social avatar

    @pies @lcamtuf the heat of the day is normally a few hours after true noon. So like the hottest time of day might be nearly 5PM in some places

    Always there's been numerous studies on people too far west on their time zone. They tend to get less sleep. Same with dst in general.

    I'm just not into lying about noon.

    If anyone’s curious, this is the master list of characters taught in a Chinese public school language arts textbook for the first half of first grade. The book uses some extra characters to express coherent sentences, but memorizing them is not required at this stage

    people have asked me if there’s anything weird and ideological in the book; now that I’ve read all of it I can say it’s 99% totally normal but there’s an uncomfortable reference to “sending a boat to Taiwan to pick up all the children so they can come play with us” and a song about how to show the flag respect which isn’t any more or less weird than how the Americans do it. Also I guess you can see Mao in the background here (last image) but the traditional costume spread is sick

    (it wouldn’t surprise me if some of these costumes represent groups who might resent the statement written in the upper right, “I am a Chinese person,” but I’m not qualified to say)

    second page of characters (sorry I’m not transcribing this)
    third page of characters (sorry I’m not transcribing this)
    a watercolor illustration of several dozen children in different traditional costumes from cultures presently considered part of China. Tiananmen is looming in the background

    Aknorals,
    @Aknorals@mastodon.social avatar

    @0xabad1dea
    Ok, but the way that Americans are indoctrinated as small children to worship the flag is also totally brainwashing, so I'll put PRC to the same standard here.
