Thinking I want to build my first personal home server. I have a #Synology#NAS DS220j but I'm thinking it's probably not adequate for Plex transcoding, among other tasks. I have a spare #Ryzen 2700x and 16GB DDR4, and also a 2060 Super (does a server benefit from a GPU?). Looking for any advice #fosstodon would be willing to share regarding hardware and software solutions.
Also, you can set up Friendica to work with XMPP. To wit:
Server admins can configure their ejabberd or prosody XMPP/Jabber servers to authenticate against the Friendica user database. If configured this way, every Friendica account is also a XMPP/Jabber account and can be used with any XMPP/Jabber client.
So XMPP is a totally valid protocol you can use with the Fediverse right now. As for why few people do this, I don’t know. Maybe they really do believe that Google “killed” XMPP—which is, in fact, untrue.
@atomicpoet@robertnorlyn but presumably the majority of those "specialists" are using that standard for it's intended purpose? If you invented a new standard and sent a vector image to someone in .abc and the software they used couldn't do anything with that file, would it be useful?
@AntennaPod How do I get the app to show the name of the podcast in my "Episodes" queue. I'm getting a bunch of episodes in there and I have no idea who is publishing them.

We're planning for future features and would love to have a designer involved early.

@christianselig I have seen a mountain of terrible reporting around this issue. Just dozens of articles written by journalists, completely clueless as to what's actually happening. Someone actually got Spez to sit down for a face-to-face interview and didn't ask them ANY important questions. So disappointing.

@show Do you upload to alternative platforms like Odysee or PeerTube? I understand they don't have as many viewers but people on Mastodon are obviously not predisposed to support Google, and these services are mostly automatic after setup and linking to your YT channel.
Even though the shift is small, it's big enough. It's incredible watching the Fediverse grow; first with the Birdsite flocking to #Mastodon, and now with #Lemmy and #Kbin growing in popularity (I only recently learned about Kbin)... this type of growth is enough to kickstart more people coming over here.
I'm looking forward to #Tumblr maybe joining sometime soon (oh, the memes you can see!), maybe some prominent Twitch people will try out #Owncast, maybe I can get some of my family over here...
@owncast Yes well, we use generic terms because these are generic ideas. I am by no means a designer, haha! But generally you want to avoid any sharp edges, and use pastel colors with good contrast against the background.
