I had an interesting conversation with a good friend about states that require diagnosis of to be registered with the state and the future implications this could have paired with laws that restrict access to care for people. I’m only familiar with a couple of states that require registration and that’s New Jersey and North Dakota.

@darren @actuallyautistic That sounds like a difficult place to be in. It’s a part of my medical record and in many ways, to obtain resources, we are forced to disclose even if it could be deleterious in the end. I do not believe Washington State has a specific registry and it’s still on my mind. I have a lot of reading to do.

Water. Swimming. Being near the bay. There is only a few childhood photos of me with a wide natural smile… they all involve water.

TW: homophobia

I wanted to share a couple of the violent and homophobic responses I received after talking about my spouse of 20 years. We are an Out, Queer, Neurodivergent couple—this will not be the first or the last time I receive comments like this. This sort of behavior is not acceptable and the community should be aware of these screen names.

As promised, there is a new in progress for Late-Identified A Starter Workbook! Just sent it off for feedback. This is the first step in a long series that will eventually end in updates across store fronts and an updated back cover. @bookstodon @writingcommunity

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ I’m 37 years old and this year will be my 20th anniversary with my spouse. We are an odd couple, both diagnosed a collage of overlapping special interests, a drive to keep learning to communicate, competing sensory needs, and a deep love for each other. I will always believe it’s our direct communication, love of learning, and love of play that is the glue in our relationship. @actuallyautistic @lgbtqia

Sleep is crucial for self-regulation. If you’re please do not relegate sleep to your “luxuries” list.

@actuallyautistic

I find the conversation around autism awareness versus autism acceptance interesting. I'm still mulling it over, trying to understand why they are presented as opposing views. I feel like awareness is at one end of the continuum, with acceptance on the other. You do not always have to understand something to respect it, but you need to know it exists to accept and appreciate it with intention. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Anyway, my sleep schedule is completely screwed up again. Woke up at 3PM+ yesterday, and haven’t slept since (it’s now 7AM here where I live).

I wonder if sleep schedule issues are something that other people face as well?

@actuallyautistic

BZBrainz,
@BZBrainz@mastodonbooks.net avatar

@eonity @actuallyautistic very much so. As a child, I slept little and only on my terms—my poor parents.

@BZBrainz So I received my copy of the book from Amazon a few days ago - I get what you're saying about the cover - glossy would be cooler, but this I can live with.

Fortunately, the contents so far are brilliant, so I guess I'll have to just leave it open :)

BZBrainz,
@BZBrainz@mastodonbooks.net avatar

@grrrr_shark Thank you for the feedback, I very much appreciate it. ♥️ I think the matte cover will be fully phased out when I put out the second edition (likely next year). Hopefully my care and love for this workbook will show. Thank you for your support!

My new book on and is out now and available for order!

Please help this book reach as many people as possible, it is self-published, I don't have access to any help with marketing, it's all done through word of mouth.

I’m so disappointed in D2D’s (Draft 2 Digital) response to my request to upload a large print paperback. It’s very similar to Amazon’s.

BZBrainz,
@BZBrainz@mastodonbooks.net avatar

@sharonecathcart @writingcommunity @bookstodon Thank you for those tips. I’m working on the PDF now and I’ll keep going back to Amazon. They’ve declined to link books several times now, instead telling me to write “large print available” in the product description, blurb, and my bio. I think I’ll hunt down some examples to show them that it is being done.

    @argumento @actuallyadhd I usually listen to one song on repeat with minimal to no vocals. I chose the BPM based on mood and energy needs. Last month I was really into the Sandman Soundtrack. And then totally different, here’s one I frequently listen to when I’m tired and trying to write. https://open.spotify.com/track/1p9TBsFqLP5KRWypjFznWp?si=44781cb6e6e3447d

    @argumento @actuallyadhd One more example, different energy. Music helps provide the stimuli I need to stay in one space to work. https://open.spotify.com/track/1p9TBsFqLP5KRWypjFznWp?si=48c83752e4924732

    Glossy cover versus matte. I hate the feel of the matte and my spouse loves it. I’m not sure which is better for the majority of us. Matte is what’s up on Amazon for now, but the color saturation of the glossy one is so appealing.

    Do you read large-print books?

    What font size do you prefer? I've been reading about creating large-print books for the last several weeks (from publishers, authors, and consultants), and there seems to be a discrepancy in the minimum font size (size 16 vs. size 18). Now, I want to hear from readers. What is your preference?

    Gratuitous cat video. 😁 I tried to do a comparison video for the different print quality between Amazon and Ingram Sparks. My old cat said… NOT TODAY!
