After flip flopping between different Masto apps for months. (Some I preferred on desktop, some on tablet or mobile) Each with their own +tives and -tives. I’ve dug down into the settings of @MonaApp and got everything working on each device just how I want it. All works and syncs great. Nice one @jonny_kuang.

@esther my parents said yesterday that the energy company had been over charging for years. Gave them the money back. Then in a separate letter said the fees were going up so basically would want it back.

is there a job to just be a website or app tester? like, could I just be at home and play around on websites and send in problems I'm finding? it's something (giving feedback) I can't seem to help myself from doing (mostly bc I SO appreciate when someone tells me if something's not working on one of my sites!) so... is this something I could be paid to do?

@serenebabe @Jyoti Wish I could do that again. Was quite a fun side job in the late 90’s. Would flirt round local businesses websites. Ring up the owners and charge for every broken link / spelling & grammatical error etc that I then pointed out to the web devs.

  1. I got payed.
  2. The web devs got annoyed that some school kid had pointed out their flaws.
  3. The business owners got annoyed the web devs had missed stuff.
  4. Sometimes I got admin rights to keep the site going.

There was a stretch when Elon Musk took over twitter and started charging for blue checks (lmao) and some of his sycophants started talking about “Veblen goods.”

A Veblen good is something for which demand increases as price increases, in contact to the neoclassical orthodoxy that demand decreases axiomatically with price.

Veblen goods are things that rich people buy to signal their wealth and status. Jewelry, fancy watches, yachts, Ivy League degrees. Things that cost many thousands or millions of dollars.

The idea that an $8 verification on twitter would ever be a status symbol for the rich was fucking ludicrous.

@HeavenlyPossum I used to do school holidays at a repair shop (when it was relatively easy to buy replacement parts and engineer manuals). Was amazed at how you could upgrade a TV / VCR by flipping some internal switches. It was also interesting how many things came in JUST after the guarantee ran out.
