Do you have a ebook reader and/or a subscription to a service that provides ebooks? I wouldn't say I have more access to ebooks than physical. I do seek out books even when given an ebook option, and I hate reading a full book on my phone. I've done it only once.

Random, uninformed thoughts on the Switch successor memory storage.

I think it would be cool if the handheld system had 256gb of storage. (Potentially pretty small for 4k games...)

But the DOCK had memory/memory expansion options too...

You could take select games with you on the go, have them all when you're home...and here's the kicker:

1/2

ChrisFerguson,
@ChrisFerguson@mastodon.social avatar

2/2

Maybe if you wanted to swap out games while away, you wouldn't need to wait to get home and dock. The dock could have an internet connection and you'd be able to just transfer the data over the internet. "Swapping" the data on the handheld with the dock on the go.

It'd take some download time, but it could be possible I think.

Likely? Maybe not, but I wouldn't mind it as a potential solution to storage constraints on a handheld system.

ChrisFerguson,
@ChrisFerguson@mastodon.social avatar

@gmr_leon
An intriguing idea! Though I'm not sold on streaming games to the existing (or new) handheld from the dock... It would severely limit on the go parity.

I'm not sure most people would find that acceptable.

Skylight’s terrific smart calendar is down to its lowest price to date https://www.theverge.com/2024/5/9/24152713/skylight-calendar-ultraloq-bolt-fingerprint-lock-deal-sale

ChrisFerguson,
@ChrisFerguson@mastodon.social avatar

@verge I don't see the appeal of this product long term.

You pay them for the device, you can link it to existing accounts...but eventually that won't be enough to keep this company happy. They'll want a subscription fee, and they currently don't offer an offline/local calendar option, so you know long term some sort of subscription is in their plans.

I'd rather build/buy a product that I can use for longer until the company I buy it from wants more money.

@beanjbunny I wouldn't mind a second folding screen and Streetpass. But yeah, I don't really need anything, feature-wise, to be happy with a spec bump upgrade.

The other thing I've been doing there lately (once a week when I check in) is unfollow a few dozen accounts. No offense intended, just one more way of not encouraging anyone to be there.

Considering they track monthly active users, your log in helps this statistic. Perhaps you should change your habit to be once every month and a half to prevent boosting this metric as much.

Ok fans... I need some guidance.

My 3 kids (& husband & I) are starting to have more struggles sharing one console & I think it might be time to invest in a 2nd Switch. But! I have some questions:

  • Do we think Nintendo's next console is coming soon? The Switch is 7 years old...

  • Does the Lite version still pair with pro controllers? Any cons to the Lite other than can't dock it?

  • Will my kids have to 'pick one' for their account to reside on??

ChrisFerguson,
@ChrisFerguson@mastodon.social avatar

@syntaxseed

  1. Yes, we anticipate a new Switch console sometime early next year, so waiting might be best!

  2. The Lite version can still pair with all Switch controllers, but it can't dock, ever.

  3. Your kids don't need to "pick one" you can sign both of their accounts into each Switch, and they can just choose their account when playing. Note: Save data backup/sync between consoles is a Nintendo Switch Online subscription feature.

Hope this helps!

ChrisFerguson,
@ChrisFerguson@mastodon.social avatar

@syntaxseed I really would wait. I'd expect news of the next console some time within the next few months....Late fall at the latest, but nothing is guaranteed!

Many are expecting the Switch successor to be backwards compatible with the Switch library, but nothing's confirmed there either yet!

Anyone know why there are suddenly a bunch of articles about EV sales slowing down? Like, data seems good? https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=61344

ChrisFerguson,
@ChrisFerguson@mastodon.social avatar

@ZachWeinersmith Politics.

EV sales are doing great. They're just not growing AS MUCH as manufacturers/stock holders thought they would. This is mostly due to Manufacturers putting out expensive 40k+ vehicles (most closer to 60k+) which most people can't justify or afford over a 20k gas/hybrid. Despite that, sales are doing great, just not as much as predicted because there are very few lower cost options.

Kriby‘s Dreamland 2 is a very nice platformer. I do not yet understand all the mechanics (what’s up with the minigame at the end of a level?) but it seems extremely well done. I notice that Nintendo originals are all very high quality whereas 3rd party games often are lacking in many ways or badly ported from other platforms. Nintendo really seems to design games for the Gameboy first.

ChrisFerguson,
@ChrisFerguson@mastodon.social avatar

@root42
While I agree Nintendo's quality is top notch, I just want to point out that this game was (officially) developed by HAL, Nintendo was the publisher.

I'm sure Nintendo had a huge hand in various places in the game to ensure quality, but HAL probably deserves most of the credit! The company relationships between HAL and Nintendo are very strong, so I'd assume much of Nintendo's company culture and quality emphasis is present and that employee talent at times is shared!
