As a #drummer I like to talk shop about #drums, but the active forums for that are heavily loaded with reactionary old white men, including the moderators. The amount of blatant bigotry is ridiculous, especially because they are all very skilled at using euphemisms so they don’t break the usual rules against politics and religion. We can be talking about the thickness of the plating on a certain era of metal shell, and somehow they manage to insert coded racism, every time.

I was ruminating on the old #StarTrek back story of Vulcans having their emotions removed in order to create a perfectly logical society; and I thought there should be an equivalent planet where they had their logic entirely removed, for a perfectly emotional society. Try to imagine that world, their culture, infrastructure, and development. I don’t think it would necessarily be a disaster—but what would it be like?!

A #thanksgiving true story:
Someone who had a crush on me in college invited me to thanksgiving dinner with their very rich family. I said yes because I had no family I wanted to be with. Turns out theirs is on the opposite coast. No problem, they’ll pay for my flight. It’s already mid Nov, $$$$ tickets, “no problem”. I land, no-one is there to get me, so I taxi to a hotel. This is long before cellphones. Eventually we connect, and they pick me up, and we drive (continued next)…

I had the most hilariously overt “need to pee” dreams this morning. In one, I was struggling to walk uphill through the current on a flooded track. In another, I went to put a mug of water in the microwave, poured the water onto the rotating dish, and then tried to close the door. There was another but I’ve forgotten.

Awesome. I set up a #PixelFed account, started posting on it regularly, put a link to it on my website, and then the host either went down or nuked my account somehow. Annoying as shit, especially because I liked the “professional” sound of the host name social.photo.

Should I make a single user instance, or is there a more stable instance you can recommend?

Can any of you tell me what name or spec of plug will fit this power socket? The opening is roughly 4 mm x 17 mm overall, with a square end and a round end. Whew! Still no power at home, about 11 hours so far. No internet, and spotty phone, in the SW. Finally a friend got us connected to a Best Western nearby, and the reservation line (based who knows where) assured us they had power, and charged us for a room. Course when we got there, no power! We made our way to the house of a friend in NE who had power and offered to put us up, and that’s where I’m writing from now. #portland #pdxtst

Just rewatched Beasts of the Southern Wild and goddamn if that isn’t one of my favorite movies of all time. I am aware of hooks’s criticism and I respect it, but for me the film’s magical depiction of the chaotically churning and burning cauldron of life and death far exceeds the tropes it may contain.
