The Bavarian capital of Munich has attracted surfers for decades, in spite of the fact that it's hundreds of miles from the coast. How? The Eisbach wave, which sits on the edge of the Eisbach river. TheWorld.org's Rebecca Rosman dove into how the wave was created, and what it's like to surf it.
After 15 years of using an iPhone, I'm considering switching to Android. I've ordered a cheap Samsung just to try it for a while before buying a top-end model.
Let's see if I can get used to it.
(I'm also a Mac user so there will be some trade-offs..)
I really like the Busycal iOS app, does anyone know a good #Android alternative? It syncs with my calendar & tasks on Nextcloud.
@ruud
Thanks for the BusyCal and BusyContacts recommendation. Have SetApp versions on Mac. Just added iOS versions on iPhone.
Here's your likely problem. A cheap Android Phone is likely a carrier modified phone. I’m an iPhone user since the original because Apple does not allow the carrier to “enhance" them. Sad experience with a Verizon sourced Motorola E815 in the naughts.
The likely issue will be photos. Google just changed Photos app stuff.
Could y'all please add (paywalled) or ($) or (€) when you post links here to content behind paywalls? It is really annoying to click through several "consent banners" and other popups, thus feeding gazillions of trackers, just to get the "to continue reading, please subscribe" message. #kthxbai

Attention #nytimes subscribers. Each of you receives 10 “gift” posts per month that are exempt from paywall counting. Selected topics and articles of importance are exempted from paywall.
Each reader is entitled to 10 monthly hops over the paywall for counted content.
I try to use my 10 gifts here as there are few stories worth forwarding.
Dismal Wizard was in one about this magnitude out Surry way. There were minor fore-shocks that morning. Just rumble vibrations. A ‘dozer was working grading across the road so we thought nothing of it. The main event went off while I was in the battle lab. We all evacuated while the building was checked for damage. Apparently, the command had an earthquake bill and instruction.
I played this record in the car 🚘 and decided to hear it in the lounge. I started in Apple Spatialize Audio but it was rubbish and switched to #qobuz#lossless via #roon. The haze cleared up. Apple compresses the main channels to make all the Dolby Atmos other stuff fit in an AirPods Pro pipe. The Maggies didn’t like it. Tubby bass.
This is a very slow, meditative music with a sonorous improvisational melody. Well the opener is. The second track is a lively piano opened #hardbop tune.
For my business mail I am still using Google.. was planning on migrating off that, someday.
Now I got an e-mail notifying me of a 54% price increase for Google Workspace.
Immediately got myself a @protonmail subscription and will be migrating today...
Ode to our new washer and dryer.
I know it seems silly to get excited about new appliances, but that is the direction my life is going.
My daughter pestered me for more than a year to replace our 25 year old Maytags. I kept saying, but they still work. She kept saying they still run, but they don't work very well.
Finally, she said they would buy us a new set as a gift. I was hesitant but caved. I didn't let them pay, but she made all of the arrangements.
She was so right. I am washing everything with enthusiasm. Instead of sounding like a semi backing up, the dryer sings to me when the load is dry. This is a happy thing.
I still had the manuals for the top of the line Maytags with the receipts attached. They cost just as much way back when as our new ones now.
I need to be less stubborn.

I had my designer confirm that we could actually get stuff in and out using 3d object modeling. Missed the shoe molding in the refrigerator pooka. Had to remove molding to get the fridge in.
Watch cooktop cutout. It can be literally set in stone.
Experiencing some data loss that’s resulted in the loss of four novels, a big stack of art, and some songs. I’m going through the stages of grief and I’m astounded at the feelings I’m having. Don’t trust yourself to automate your backups. Make a manual backup right now.
I’ve recovered the first draft of three out of four novels, final renderings of most of the art, but none of the song demos. I’m very heartbroken.
