Welcome to all the new people following here after my Abandoned America post!

One of my ongoing projects is the "Good Morning From Harlem" series. Most mornings when I wake up I look out from my bedroom window & take a photo. When the weather & light are right, the pictures work as an affirmation, a personal ritual, a mood board, & a weather report.

I'm delighted to move the series to Mastodon & I hope we can continue the journey together.

Watched "The Horse's Mouth" on Criterion last night with my 17-yo daughter who's currently assembling her portfolio to apply to art schools.

Beautifully filmed in Technicolor with paintings by John Bratby, the exploration of The Meaning of Art is utterly trenchant & relevant. Also the film is hilarious!

Alec Guinness wrote the screenplay & gives a great performance as the artist. 1958 London looks stunning. The destruction of a huge painting on a brick wall in the final scene is jaw-dropping.

I have taken up the Gravikord as my latest instrument. It's a 24 string electric harp, inspired by the West African Kora. It was invented by Bob Grawi.

I saw the instrument hanging in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY in June with my Godson Vincent, who said "It's the most N to The Power instrument I've ever seen." Next thing I knew I was contacting Bob Grawi & arranging for him to build one for me.

I'll post some music in the coming days...

This evening’s cocktail: The Negroni Spagliato Spritz

1 oz Campari
1 oz sweet red vermouth
4 oz Prosecco (or in this case cremante - whatever bubbly you have on hand)
Dash Angostura orange bitters
Orange peel garnish (I don’t have this tonight)

Very refreshing, with the delicious bitter profile of a classic Negroni, but much lower alcohol content (Prosecco instead of gin), so one can guzzle a few. I think this might be my summer cocktail of 2023.
