Soon I hope people suggest driving an older car without these telemetry features to improve your security posture. Even you are using all and secure apps and stuff and everything encrypted with a dumb phone, etc. that you don't keep on you to be tracked you could still be thwarted by vehicle and targeted on a very granular level unless you're driving something old. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/sep/06/cars-collect-extensive-personal-data-on-drivers-study-warns

Galletasalada,

@SecurityWriter You seem to be assuming that I’m not writing this from a mastodon server that is actively monitored by the FBI. Your hilarious overkill is many peoples’ reality if they are targeted by state actors.

I think Americans really vibed with Coming To America with Eddie Murphy, because of the whole Nigerian prince thing. I have a family member from Nigeria and at least amongst Igbo people they were traditionally mostly governed by village councils rather than a monarch https://umunnaigbomanitoba.ca/igbo-history and the Obi of a town was more like a feudal lord or even a Burgomeister kinda guy rather than there being such a thing as princes of a realm.

Galletasalada, to Health

My financial institution sent me a letter that basically told me "fuck you for having and being , we want you to die, we are gaslighting pieces if shit who think that making people remove their masks "for a short time" doesn't "pose a health risk" and the worst part is they claim that "most financial institutions" would do this, despite them having let me open my account with them while masked. Literally the only thing that changed is now they feel empowered to against me based on my status.

Galletasalada,

They literally sent it in writing that their policy officially is to deny service to people who won't remove their mask. That seems like something I should be able to sue them about, but I'm not sure. Any want to chime in pro bono publica? Is a thing? I might well have the makings of a lawsuit against this credit union. I mean there were ever so many cases of people getting medical exemptions to wearing a mask, so why should I not be able to get an exemption that allows me to and protect myself against illness, not just but also everything else because I am ?

Galletasalada,

This is a redacted version of the letter I got from the credit union. They actually think that they can lie to my face and tell me that they "apply this policy equally" when they NEVER ONCE asked me to remove my mask before, or gave me ANY INDICATION WHATSOEVER OF A POLICY CHANGE.

They are claiming that since the TSA does it, it must not be dangerous. These assholes don't seem to realize that the TSA is endangering people and causing more cases every day by forcing people to doff their mask to be identified.

I want these gaslighting pricks to have to experience what living with Long COVID is like, since they believe that forcing people to unmask "should not create excessive risk".

The fucked up thing is if they had written emails about this change they made, or just let us know in any way that there was a conscious choice being made to expose people to COVID in order to appease their bullshit feelings, I would maybe have just accepted it. It's the gaslighting, and the claim that there is no risk, the denial that they changed anything in the first place, when I opened my account while masked, that really gets to me.

I am hoping that or or or someone who knows about will help me with this. It's really about the principle of the thing. There were hundreds of legal cases where people were funded with all the Koch oil money on Earth to do their anti-mask "medical exemption" BS. So if they can claim a medical exemption to having to wear a mask, how can I not claim a medical exemption that allows me to and protect myself? The math isn't mathing.

This is a duplicate screenshot of the same text posted because the first one ran into alt text character limit. The text continues: We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. But we have taken these steps for the protection and security of all members. We apply our policies equally across all members, and we work hard to make all services available equally (and safely) for all members. We appreciate your understanding and your trust in_Credit Union. Sincerely, REDACTED SVP/Chief Operations Officer

Galletasalada,

They only sent this to me once I demanded that they explain themselves in writing, BTW. They tried to just straight up lie to me over the phone and claim that it had always been their policy to force people to unmask. They carefully avoid doing so in this letter. I would like to fucking know who changed this policy, when it changed, and why it changed. Because I was trying to fucking deposit my money in my account when I was denied service, so they can't exactly pretend I was going to rob the bank, hidden by my COVID mask. Yet that's exactly what this letter implies. It's just completely disgusting, bullshit. Just like the doctors who forcibly sterilized thousands of Americans over the decades, these eugenicists will also likely face no meaningful consequences for their actions.

Galletasalada,

I would say that identity/security is the reason most people are made to take off masks, like NYC mayor Eric Adams has told small businesses to do. As a bank, they have a right to ask me to identify myself for their security or whatever. However, they were unwilling to work with me on this whatsoever.

I would actually feel way safer doffing my mask in a properly ventilated setting, where there is far less risk. So the drive through interactive teller machine would have been the place I would have been fine with taking it off for a second to identify myself, because it's outside with nobody around in a fairly windy area. But that is the option they provide for people who don't want to take off their mask. It's not very logical.

If they had wanted to identify me they could have me like take off my mask outside and look at me through the window or something, it would not be hard to accommodate me and let me take it off in a ventilated place where it's safe is really the deal.

Instead of working with me on it they just went straight to lying to me telling me that unmasking had always been their policy and that they applied it equally to everyone. I hadn't been asked to take it off before, and I hadn't been asked by the same person when they helped me before.

They didn't notify me of this policy change in any way. The same hoods and sunglasses sign telling people to remove those items that had always been on the door was on the door, and I had always been happy to comply and take off my sunglasses or hood or both, not my mask, and they were always fine with that in the past.

The sign on the exterior facade telling people to remove hoods and sunglasses says nothing about masks. If they have that as a policy then they need to not be cowards about it and ban masks with their chest. They need to say it on the door just like it says hoods and sunglasses. The sign doesn't identify any other type of apparel, just those two. That's what I want them to do, if they are going to take this stance then they need to take it publicly and loudly. This is a very anti-mask place. I'm sure most of the local community would support them on it, and they probably won't even lose much business. But they need to say it openly, that's what I want from them. Make it crystal clear that they are engaged in against the members of their credit union based on status and being with caused by . If they will add to their signs that customers must remove their masks in the underventilated indoor setting of the bank branch interior in order to be served, I would be satisfied, because at least nobody else would have to go through the same refusal of service I experienced for trying to protect myself against .

Apparently my dentist died recently. Just keeled over and kicked the bucket while on his morning jog. This is what nobody is acknowledging about and vascular and neural damage.

You will probably be fine if you're vaccinated and it will feel like a cold or maybe not even like anything, and then you go to work and spread it, then weeks or even months later when you are trying to go and do some light exercise you just die.

need to recognize COVID as a and safety issue. They are some of the most at risk people for the effects of long COVID especially because HCWs in the USA have a culture of emphasizing exercise and also sleep deprivation. I'm no immunologist but that seems like a risk factor to me.

Just got discriminated against for wearing a mask trying to make a deposit. Teller invented a policy that has never existed before, of doffing masks to be able to do a transaction. I refused and left. They claimed that it had always been their policy, despite that being a blatant lie. Especially galling because the same magachud teller had helped me before no problem, they just decided today was the day to start power tripping. I’m going to get the policy from their head office in writing and come back and wave it in their face. Wondering if other people have experienced this kind of bullshit.

    Galletasalada,

@mekkaokereke When I took a CompSci ethics seminar it was taught by the CS professor and full of white kids asking things like "has affirmative action gone too far?" And telling us they "feel judged" when we definitively answered no, and basically described how anyone asking that is an asshole. But that guy, who is named after a 90s TV show that his parents clearly were a fan of, is still going to go on to be a developer...

How insane is it that we don't have new rules for safer are in public spaces?

We've outlawed drunk driving, even though a study found only 1 in 625 DWI trips resulted in a crash.

Right now, is still mutating and we have a new surge in infections. There is a MUCH greater than 1 in 625 chance that someone who's infected will infect others in a crowded restaurantor event. Those people have a 10-20% risk of longer-lasting, possibly chronic health issues.

    Why haven't we acted?

    Galletasalada,

@augieray because a three year global propaganda campaign by the capitalist ownership class successfully convinced a critical mass of uninformed people that any kind of prevention measures are "restrictions" designed to control and repress them.

During the engineering work for the supersonic Concorde in England, "Thunderbirds" TV series creator Gerry Anderson was visiting the main facility one day. Someone asked him what he did for a living. Feeling massively outranked by all the engineering talent surrounding him there, he quietly replied that he made children's TV shows. Asked which ones, he mentioned Thunderbirds.

Within minutes he was surrounded by Concorde engineers who wanted to talk to him and shake his hand, many of whom told him it was his shows that had inspired them toward engineering careers, because they wanted to actually build the planes and rockets he had in his series. He was flabbergasted.

The original Star Trek had a similar effect on many career choices.

Now of course, TV mostly inspires people toward careers as lazy bums or crooks.

    Galletasalada,

@lauren glad I read the whole post so I could remove my fav star, lol. You know that most of the media you get recommended is based on things you personally chose to watch in the past, right?

    Galletasalada,

@lauren So you understand well that you're being recommended shows that depict "lazy bums" and "crooks" because that's what you've been watching before. I find that "lazy bums" and "crooks" are actually not useful categories and people who are labeled as such are usually some of the most upstanding members of their communities around.

    Galletasalada,

@lauren You do realize that the entertainment industry is an industry though, right, and that they’re selling a product that people are consuming? Most writers have faith in their audience, they believe they are adults who can see a fictional character partying or doing crime (which does not work the way in real life as how it’s depicted on TV) without wanting to engage in this behavior themselves. It sounds like you maybe haven’t done much examination of the social categories of “criminal gangs and murderous thugs” but I guess everyone has to come to that on their own. Have a nice day.
