Okay, that's it! ❤️

Migration is finally all done and fixed, servers all run smooth again

Curerntly we have:

  • 1 main server that hosts the database, cache & proxy
  • 2 sidekiq servers
  • 1 puma server

I'm happy again :blobhappy:

On the rumored Mac foldable, here's a link to the Yoga book 9i, which does what Apple seems to be aiming at.

Follow the link, start clicking through the photos at the top. Seems a bit unwieldy to me, a bulk/weight tradeoff for the extra screen real estate.

Worth it? Will Apple find a way to make the tradeoff work?

@davemark and you have no idea how hard it was for me not to add, "keyboard? We don't need no stinkin' keyboard!"

JamesWNeal,
@JamesWNeal@mstdn.social avatar

@davemark Apple's keyboard will be virtual. People who can't learn to touch type on a bare table or in the air will have to get the new Apple Vision Air glasses that will also be foldable - just like my current glasses.

"Apple Vision Pro immersive ‘Adventure’ video shot in Paris premiering this week ahead of international launch"

The limited (but growing) Vision Pro content reminds me of the "early days" each time a basic content is rolled out:

  • Renting VHS tapes
  • CD availability
  • DVD rentals

Etc., etc., etc.

These are early days. Way early.

Some insight into what happened in the minutes before the Key Bridge collapsed.

Cool, direct, urgent, successful. Maybe not a college degree or a 6-figure salary among them—and they used their training & experience at the most critical, high-pressure moment to save lives. All day, every day-that happens & we don't see it. That's your 'deep state? Just in Port of Baltimore, 45 cargo container ships come & go every 24 hours. 16,000 ships a year. They require all this guidance all the time (and US has 8 LARGER ports). Each ship with 5,000 containers loaded & unloaded. Not to mention The 8 construction workers on the bridge—-patching potholes in the middle of the night, so the road stays maintained, at a time that reduces inconvenience to us (and yes, is easier for them too because of low traffic). Every night...
Every night, 5 or 6 days a week, men & women just like them do that dangerous work on interstates & bridges in all 50 states. ... Here's the moment: An officer who closed one of the approaches says on radio...Can we notify the construction workers? Can we call the supervisor?' The officer was ready to drive out & warn the workers when someone on the radio — seconds later — said, The bridge is down. The whole bridge. That unnamed officer had been immediately thinking about how to save those guys out on the bridge—workers just like him. Thanks. - Thanks to all these folks who make the world run, and run safely 99% of the time, and work with skill, grace, clear-headedness in invisible but essential jobs. Even as disaster unfolded Tuesday after midnight, they were at work.

(WaPo analysis by Philip Bump) We should recognize this effort as extending well beyond the conceit that Target or Bud Light or Kohl’s is trying to sell the LGBTQ lifestyle to kids. That’s simply the gateway rhetoric for a broader effort to scare companies into not creating marketing campaigns centered on any nonconservative or non-right-wing ideas at all. The LGBTQ focus is leveraging one of the more socially acceptable forms of discrimination.

I wish Joe Biden were here. Not in my living room, mind you, although I'd be fine having morning coffee with the man. No, I mean this platform. It just seems like his kind of place. What can we do about that?

While Donald Trump was busy trying to get somebody - anybody - to give him $454 million with no collateral, Joe Biden was proposing doing this.
"For current homeowners looking for a new place but worried about giving up their current, lower mortgage rate, I'm proposing a $10,000 tax credit if they sell their starter homes."

"That means more folks can get into houses that suit their needs - and we unlock more affordable homes for first-time buyers."

I do get the feeling that this $3.3 billion dollar investment by Microsoft will get a lot of attention within 25 miles of the site of this event, but this is big money and it's national news, too. Live stream with Biden just about to take the stage.

There are some vegetables I've had difficulty with in recent years, particularly zucchini and eggplant. The zucchini plants usually die before they can produce and the eggplants get eaten up and seldom produce either. This year, for the first time, I sprayed all the young plants with Sevin and then hit them again several weeks later. Certainly seems to have paid off. I've never had a zucchini plant this big.

A very large zucchini plant, over three feet high and just as wide, takes over a large section of a garden next to a decorative metal fence.

Y'know I went to high school in Brookings, South Dakota (grade school in Rapid) and I had a feeling and so I looked it up and yes, there are plenty of no-kill animal shelters in the state. Why their governor couldn't find one is beyond me. "right to life, and all that.

Do you have any idea how much this country would change if, say voter turnout in November increased five percent from 2020? About 67% of eligible voters cast ballots then - and that was considered huge. Check out this piece from 2020.
