Sverige-based Northvolt announced a sodium-ion battery that uses no critical minerals (lithium, cobalt, nickel).

It is suitable for energy storage, with validation testing at 160 watt hours per kg. Lithium-ion batteries for energy storage typically have a density of 180 Wh/kg, but not needing critical minerals should reduce the cost and carbon footprint of manufacturing.

Lithium-ion batteries used in electric cars typically have a density of 250–300 Wh/kg.

I switched my website from WordPress to Eleventy 4 years ago.

Yesterday, I launched https://restoration.software using WordPress because of its ActivityPub plugin.

The ActivityPub plugin is great. However, WordPress feels like a complicated mess today.

I like block editing, but it’s frustrating to use compared to Webflow. The CSS and HTML WordPress produces is verbose garbage I am ashamed to have anyone inspect. 20 style elements in the head and yet also inline styles in 2023‽

In August, Norge started fining Meta daily for GDPR violations. Instead of complying, Meta decided it was more profitable to pay the fine.

So the European Data Protection Board just expanded the ruling to all of the EU and issued a permanent ban on Meta’s use of behavioral advertising. It does not even get a chance to have users opt in. This is wild.

Meta now risks fines up to 4% of its global turnover.

It doesn't use #LeafComputing, but it does now have HomeKit support. You can save $50 with HOMEKIT.

Mila is beautiful, quiet, has air quality sensors, adjusts automatically, and has a great pulsing white noise mode for sleeping if you're into that (I am). Filters are effective and reasonably priced.

The “Sex Education” series finale was just perfect. 💖

I’m grateful for the depth and breadth of gender and sexual orientation, economic status, racial and ethnic, and disability representation without ever feeling forced. I appreciate the imperfect characters growing thru mistakes and therapy. I applaud the thoughtful handling of traumatic experiences.

This show helped me in my own therapy journey. I bet many other viewers can say the same.

15 years ago, I married this incredible man. We vowed to support each other’s happiness, not “till death do us part.” We promised to be truthful on if we were better together than apart. We’ve grown so much as individuals. We just as reasonably could have grown in separate ways. We’re still together and deeply in love. He’s the best fieldtrip buddy I could ask for.

A few years ago, I predicted car and motorcycle manufacturers would get into the e-bike market given the high demand, decent margin, and ability to differentiate with established design and manufacturing capabilities.

Harley-Davidson’s fugly and overpriced Serial1 did not prove me right.

However, Mini announced its E-Bike 1. It’s beautiful and priced appropriately within the high end range.
