Thirteen years ago, when we had cold wintery Christmases.
Down on Newcastle town moor with the (big) kids 😄 - the good old days

Christmas day came and went, in a flash the excitement peaked, the dinner was eaten, dishes were done.
I sat watching the flickering candles thinking about absent friends and family, reflecting on the year passed, hoping for a better, peaceful, happier 2024.

Great to see the nacreous clouds locally yesterday, these are hardly ever seen in the UK as very specific conditions are needed, and as one of the highest clouds in the atmosphere, it is typically referred to as 'mother-of-pearl.
Ice crystals form and refract the light rays to give vivid rainbow effects.

Those winter's mornings, drizzly, foggy, not too warm...
I'll pop the kettle on again I think 🤔

Yeah, think it's that monotone feeling that you get this time of year, shades of grey without the fun bits 😄

Takahe, a native New Zealand flightless bird & prehistoric throw back.
Stunning colours on those feathers in the sunlight.

It's been a little moist here recently, do hope it stops at some point - before we evolve webbed feet. 😳

Headed north today.
The Doors - Riders on the Storm came to mind 😳
The wind was gusting 85kph and the rain sideways - another day in paradise

The different faces of Edinburgh at Christmas.
Old and established castle and chandelier adorned houses vs seasonal colourful fair grounds

Suddenly you're a year older and nobody seems to care or notice except Colin the Catapillar (the chocolate cake). No cards on the door mat, nothing to unwrap 😕
The hairy bap* is as good as it got, but guess what's for breakfast 😳😄

The monastery of Lindisfarne was founded 634 by Saint Aidan (pic) who was sent from Iona to Northumbria by King Oswald.
Holy Island was an important centre of Christianity under Saints Aidan, Cuthbert, Eadfrith, and Eadberht of Lindisfarne. Saint Bede wrote much of what we know about this history.
With frequent attacks from the Vikings, the Abbey was plundered and destroyed.

Just returned from holiday back home in New Zealand where the daily max was around 24° each day. Returning to Scotland yesterday where it peaked at -3° 🥶
But we do get fabulous hoarfrost as a result giving exciting opportunities for some macro work (on my phone).
