Oh, sorry. I shouldn't simply assume that folks beyond Britain are aware: In case you missed it, the UK government - led by a fucking billionaire as prime minister - are withholding investment in care for people or the environment yet sparing no expense to hand their friends huge uncontested contracts for made-up services; to criminalise, terrorise, and kick down doors of disabled people on welfare; to condemn asylum seekers to death and deportation; to maintain a massive military industrial complex; to spy on and control their own citizens; to cozy up to other fascist governments; and to create culture wars for their next bigoted, fear mongering reelection campaign designed to manufacture moral panic bullshit.

And another thing: there was no "cost of living crisis." Energy companies are rolling in dough. Little state sweeteners of a few hundred quid are a small price to pay for their politician pals to make it seem like an accident when in fact it's the new normal now. These prices are never coming down. They're not. Stop hoping. These capitalists intend to bleed people dry. They know nothing else. Recognise them for what they are: thieves and murderers. They can flick a pen to make policies all they like. Might as well be swords.

The Guardian declares at the end of its articles ‘As a reader-funded news organisation, we rely on your generosity. Please give what you can, so millions can benefit from quality reporting on the events shaping our world.’ How many readers funding this heroic mission are aware that, last year, Guardian editor, Kath Viner, received a 42 per cent pay rise of £150,000, taking her salary to £509,850. Brazen claims that the Guardian is ‘free from commercial influence’ appear in the pages of a newspaper overflowing with corporate adverts on which it is deeply dependent. Last year, print and advertising generated revenues of £71.5m and £73.7m respectively. The Guardian is owned by the Scott Trust, which runs a £1.3bn investment fund. https://www.medialens.org/2023/souls-for-sale-the-times-interviews-noam-chomsky/

Transphobes - and I can't stress this enough - fuck off.

I'm getting too fucking old to be anything less than truly authentic and honest, and too wise to be embarrassed by it. So, frankly, this is how I feel: My heart warms by so many resilient amazing wonderful interesting kind principled people, all around - made so much clearer by the internet and especially online spaces like this (and people like you, most likely, if you're reading this) - despite the harsh cruelties of capitalism and power's abuses. And there's so much I want to do, in my communities - and at home too, for my partner and for myself - that, shit, there's never a chance to be bored...and despite (or because of) the fact there's so little time left in the grand scheme, I just get excited to be alive and humbled by the privileges I possess to still get to feel this way.

I was just reading that is apparently claiming it will seek explicit consent from EU users before using their data to serve up highly targeted ads as the UK meanwhile considers an "appropriate response." And aside from the fact one of the most morally bankrupt deputy prime ministers in British history (I know: that's saying something) moved on to work for Meta so they have some nice reach there, I'm just astounded that people still want to willingly participate on sites that openly gather data to simply to sell ad space. But then, many people are also accepting of a certain other billionaire-owned site on which he proudly bragged about spreading misinformation...

I think it's time to stop searching for some sort of social media beyond the Fediverse. For those praising BlueSky as something so much better than Twitter: "BlueSky Terms of Service gives Jack a 'perpetual' & 'irrevocable' license to all your content (posts, name, likeness, pics); BlueSky can delete your account for any reason, but may refuse to delete it if you ask." https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1651686218319425570.html

Any recommendations for a good cheap/free and easy alternative to DocuSign type stuff? In this case specifically for image/audio releases. Thanks!

A friendly reminder on posting images: or else no boost. Sorry, I don't make the rules! Well, okay, this one is my rule.

"For months the Tories have argued that the cost-of-living crisis is the result of a crisis of energy sovereignty caused by the war in Ukraine. In fact, the price of gas had rocketed upwards before the war. There was no shortage of supply, since most of the gas used in the UK is piped from the North Sea." A fascinating thing happened. A group of 100 random people were told to organise themselves into a society and they collectively decided how they'd function democratically; figured it all out and everything - and then added that 1 of them would have power to rule over them as something called a monarch, and have 99% of the resources, leaving just 1% of resources to be shared amongst the 99 of them. Just kidding. No rational people would ever fucking do this.

I should mention I've also just written an anarchist critique of the current UK media landscape for @Freedom_Press, including how information needs to be exchanged in the spirit of mutual aid via a network of local autonomous media similar to the French Mutu model - so stay tuned for that!

In case you didn't know, I run @theleftfist which covers pro wrestling from a leftist perspective (free content, and member benefits from about a dollar a month). For its podcast, I just finally conducted an interview with @Authenticdmckee, author of Anarchist Atheist Punk Rock Teacher, and I'm sure you'll find it as interesting, informative, and enlightening as I did: https://www.patreon.com/posts/interview-with-89669253?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_creator&utm_content=join_link

Okay, it's now clear. Elon Musk is a Bond Villain. And given that in actuality, Bond himself is villainous, that's saying something.

I sometimes fantasise about being part of a workers cooperative dedicated to the development - and effective promotion - of a distribution. Of course, I'm the drizzling shits at coding so there's a slight obstacle there. But hey, my heart would be in it! (I've got a background of relatively successful fundraising, so there's that, at least)

I want to join the Open Rights Group. But I know what I'm like: If I join, I'll also try and help start a chapter in my city, and then I'll be busy doing that on top of everything else. And I'll still be wondering why in recent years my annual income has barely reached past, like, ten grand, and the wolves are at the door. So I've promised myself I'm not going to slap down dues and becoming a paying member of ORG. Nope. I've asked for it as a birthday present. Oh, wait! Well, shiiiit...
