Concept from last night's dream: Tie Bones.

They were bones that rich people had in their bowties to prove that they were really rich and not just faking it by wearing ties.

I think the ties were once alive, but didn't get clarity on that.

@HuShuo ohh, that is a good one. I assumed the ties had human bones with them, like a tie clip. I like the idea that the authentic bowties are animls and we are all wearing synthetic.

... It also demonstrates that a bunch of
economists will say a lot of hateful things (sexist, racist, homophobic, and antisemetic) if they think they're anonymous. So many people are trying to get this replaced by a moderated alternative.

Paper is worth a read to drop your jaw at the terribleness of either angle. Or both.

The instance "art" censored and vetoed users for posting Goya's classic painting "La maja Desnuda", has vetoed users for questioning the ban on referring to "GNU Image Manipulation Program" as "GIMP", has banned Social, and now the BBC, etc
I guess that's right that the owner of the server imposes her authoritarianism as she wants, it's what private property has. But many artists come to mastodon thinking that "art" is a standard domain, and when they see all this they decide to leave Mastodon.↘️

    @tzimmer_history I have to admit, I was raised in the lets-hear-both-sides, truth-is-in-the-middle centrist tradition, and it took a lot of years to remove myself from it. Even now, I sometimes hear that voice in my head offering the most extremely generous assumption of good faith and looking for any kernel of truth in some far right argument.

    But like... not this one? Not the insane anti-trans shit either. I do not understand the people laundering this hate for any other audience.

    A lot of marginalized people keep this place going, not to make money, but to create a space for people like themselves.

    I am really impressed with so many of the techniques people are able to employ there, for many reasons, but the scale of this is really striking! Not surprised it gets news coverage!
