@MylesRyden@vivaldi.net

An old techie who occasionally uses new tech. Teacher by trade. Psychology and Critical Thinking are my subjects, YMMV.

I don't give a flying fig who you have relationships with, what you do in your bedroom or what you do in your church, as long as you don't expect me or anyone else to think, do or believe as you do.

I used to say that all my cultural references are 20+ years old, but that is now out of date. All my cultural references are from the previous century.

    The in the state of Georgia is a reminder of why the founders favored federalism: states’ independent power is a check on tyranny.
    A law professor looks at how, ironically, this has been a Republican Party aim since Ronald Reagan. https://theconversation.com/georgias-indictment-of-trump-is-a-confirmation-of-states-rights-a-favorite-cause-of-republicans-since-reagan-210610

    @TheConversationUS But of course that was back when most of the Federal government was controlled by Democrats. Once the GOP controls the central government, the don't give a FF about local control. Same thing happened in Wisconsin. Here the GOP state legislature passes laws all the time that deny/shut down local control.

    MylesRyden,
    @MylesRyden@vivaldi.net avatar

    @revengeday I started using DGD but was not impressed with the results. But the bigger, weirder problem is that I work in schools (I am a sub teacher) and the school wifi blocks search engines other than google. I presume the wifi filter they use can work with google to filter results to keep out NSFW (and students) results. I'll have to try GDG again to see if it works better for me now.

    MylesRyden,
    @MylesRyden@vivaldi.net avatar

    @revengeday The list of things that are blocked is totally weird. For example, anything with "blog" in it is blocked. So if National Geographic has a "blog" it will be blocked. But a flat earth "website" is perfectly fine. So much for education. 😉

    BREAKING: Ohio voters overwhelmingly rejected Amendment 1 tonight.

    So to recap:
    •Red KS—Citizens vote to protect access
    •Red MT—Citizens vote to protect access
    •Red KY—Citizens vote to protect access
    •Red WI—Citizens vote to protect access
    •Red OH—Citizens vote to protect access

    72%+ Americans SUPPORT access. GOP runs on culture wars because they can't win on ideas. Vote Republicans out permanently.

    MylesRyden,

    @QasimRashid Just one minor quibble. Wisconsin is not really red any more. Yes, our congressional delegation and state legislature are so gerrymandered that they are Republican, but Republicans hold no statewide offices (other than Ron Johnson), the last two Supreme Court Justices have come from the left, Biden won here and the only R who wants to run against Tammy Baldwin is a student at UW. Can't say we are Blue yet, but we are no longer red.
