Let me explain this real slow.

  1. I borrow $100 from you today.
  2. I pay you $10 every day for a year.
  3. I have paid you back $3,650
  4. I still owe you $90 somehow.
  5. You then "forgive" the $90 debt.

In this scenario, absolutely nobody is paying anybody $90. Nobody is being stiffed $90. Nobody is being forced to pay someone else's $90 debt. Absolutely nobody is "getting a $90 handout for free".

What's happening is you have been paid back your original $100 and then profited a mere $3,550 on top of that and we're saying that's enough profit.

@lin11c Sure. Willful ignorance is detestable. I am simply sick and tired of "they're crazy, they're stupid" when the real problem is that the know very well that what they're doing is wrong and choose to ignore that knowledge. Especially considering that people who are truly "crazy" (i.e., mentally ill) and "stupid" (i.e., those with cognitive disabilities) are often among fascists' first targets. Our culture, for whatever reason, is uncomfortable with admitting that people are just evil sometimes and seeks to pathologize wrongdoing instead of just calling it what it is and ostracizing those responsible. You haven't used "crazy" here but to me it's a related phenomenon. In both cases, one is blaming biological factors beyond their control rather than assigning them the moral responsibility for their choices. It's actually giving them an out, being charitable towards their motivations, when they don't deserve it.

False diagnoses don't yield helpful treatments.

News to me: Eastern Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda) have been experiencing unusually (per historical weather records) high rainfall since March and are now experiencing long-term flooding. Hundreds of people have died and hundreds of thousands are now displaced. This article marks a dam bursting in Kenya, contributing heavily to the displacement.

Am lamenting anew the refusal by Biden to support Supreme Court reform when Democrats controlled the House and Senate and could have expanded the Court, neutralizing the power of demonstrably corrupt Justice Thomas and the justices appointed after Mitch McConnell illegitimately refused to advance Obama’s nominee to the seat that went eventually to Gorsuch. Elected Democrats must take foundational measures if we are to preserve any sort of meaningful democracy in America. 1/

So here's the thing about the decision, here's why I am not worried about it going one way or another.

Once you've gotten to the point of having "the highest court in the land," the court that is essentially 9 unelected rulers, making a decision about whether the head of the executive branch can go full dictator or not... you've already got a situation where the head of the executive branch is going to go full dictator. If it's not Trump, it will be someone else. They've already established that this is a decision that could go one way or another. That means that, just like they did with Roe, the fascists will just keep throwing money at the political system until they get the right combination of judges, "elected" officials, and circumstances, until it goes their way.
