I have to assume there’s some sort of neurological effect on kids of being able to rewatch the same movie or show again and again. You couldn’t do that when I was a kid. Even if you rented it you had to return it.

Telling students they can only use AI to proofread and copy edit their papers is like telling a toddler they can only take one piece of candy from a candy store where there’s no clerk and the candy is free and they never close and there are a ton of other people in there acting like Augustus Gloop in the chocolate river room and you’re at home, upstairs, asleep.

One thing I’ve noticed in all this AI business is the number of faculty who seem…heartbroken is the wrong word, but something like it? They saw or suspected far more cheating than they expected—still a minority of students, but more than expected—and this is not who they thought these students were. This isn’t just a technological, ethical, or pedagogical issue. It’s personal and psychological, and it operates in both directions.
