I do not love that a lot of the same driving mentality permeates how people move around on crowded MUPs in If you were in the group of bros loudly ringing your bells in unison to get people walking to move right off the path so you all could blast through the middle so fast I could almost feel you on my left shoulder, well I’ll tell you to fuck off in person when you’re stopped next time too. Slow the hell down and wait a singular minute once in a while

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@grivettcarnac Blows my mind how many cyclists execute what I'd consider a dangerous pass on the paths.

I ring my bell when I'm passing pedestrians so they know I'm there (you can check my YT ride videos). I also will slow down to a crawl rather than pass between two pedestrians. It’s not hard.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@human3500 @grivettcarnac 👍🏻 My bell is a pleasant "ding”, and I believe it is better at communicating my intention than me talking. The noise cancellation on my airpods lets bells through, which is handy.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@rndeon @grivettcarnac I think generally you're right - all of the negative interactions (as a cyclist/runner/walker) I've had with cyclists have been the “look-like-they're-on-a-race” crew. I have a tonne of ride video on YT that I suppose you could wade through, but that would take a long time.

I'm still thinking about this conversation. I had some thoughtful exchanges about it yesterday. Today I'm having a different thought.

I feel like we spend a lot of time trying to take the things we like and make them free. And conversely we spend a lot of time taking the things we don't like and trying to force companies to pay us more money to do it.

@polotek I was talking about this with someone IRL earlier; can you imagine if we had universal basic income, and people could afford to work on open source projects because they had a roof over their head?

I'd vote for that.

🤹‍♀️ 1h of #juggling

I've been trying the mills mess with 3 balls for what feels like a godzillion years and now I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel🕯️😁. I'm close!
The same goes for alternating 2-1 doubles with the clubs

Then it was time for my #circuitraining session.

2x45s, 2x30s:
1️⃣ High knees
2️⃣ Floor ladder (cardio)
3️⃣ Side plank
4️⃣ Bulgarian split squat
5️⃣ Scissors
6️⃣ Squat jump
7️⃣ Wall chair
8️⃣ Hollow hold
9️⃣ Russian twists @ 3kg
🔟 Adductors

#fitodon #fitness

Me struggling with mills mess 3 balls
Me struggling with clubs double 2-1 sequence
Me doing a 180° rotation while juggling with clubs. Ending the sequence by passing a club under my leg

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@s1m0n4 Wow, that’s really impressive!

WTL,

@s1m0n4 The quality is fine - I thought it was "a look".

Two year offer with TELUS ended, so they wanted to charge us $170 a month just for internet???
Their offer online is $80 for better speeds than what we currently have.

So we have to waste an hour calling them, threaten to leave, to be offered $75 and better speeds to stick around.

How many people are not doing this and providing $100 of pure profit to them (they are still profiting at $75 from us).

Cannot wait for the next merger to complete the monopoly 🙄

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@leroy Rogers did the same thing to me and I'm pretty sure they rely on the fact that people don't want to sit on hold for an hour to talk to someone about it.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@leroy 💯 I just don't like that baseline annoyance of being on hold; that I have to be ready at a moment's notice to deal with them.

Have you read Station Eleven? It’s absolutely wonderful and it’s 99p on Kindle today!

WTL,

@purplepadma It's a great story! I remember reading it, and when I found out it had been made into a miniseries, I was concerned. Watched it and greatly enjoyed that too.

@purplepadma As usual, the book’s better, but is still worth it, I think.

Thursday:
112 seconds of plank
11 minutes of yoga for runners
20 minutes of HIIT
30 minutes of strength training
~6km of #cycling to the site and to the next meeting spot.

No time for #running today; had to be onsite early, but I can say that pulling fibre itself is a great workout. We're in good shape for the upcoming music festival. Should be a fun season when that starts next month.

So we have via rail tickets booked for August and naturally I loaded the tickets in Apple Wallet… then a few days later I got an email saying the schedule was going to change and now I’ve gotten 2 new sets of tickets and I’m sick of adding and deleting tickets 🥸 I should be able to just use the same set of tickets regardless of what schedule changes but I’m annoyed at this process. If the time changes by 5 minutes and I need a whole new set of tickets? Gesus…

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@grivettcarnac I add the ticket bar codes to the calendar event.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@grivettcarnac We've done it for years. Put each trip as a separate calendar event (OTT->MTL, MTL->OTT, for example). Looks like this:

OTT-MTL T22-C5-6C&D
(train 22, Car 5, Seats 6C&D) This way, I have where we are headed at a glance, and the two car codes are labeled with each of our names.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@casseagull @grivettcarnac 🎉 Please do!

Grossest marketing trend I’ve been seeing lately: companies sending you an email after you browsed their website, asking if you “forgot” to buy something.

Sometimes I’m logged in, and sometimes it’s a device-level cookie making the connection. Even with every privacy setting I can find turned on, plus as much network stuff as possible.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@bomkatt @MythingPerson Likewise, and you're right, it's gross.

I know it's there because it converts, but I wonder if they're tracking lost future sales by people turned off by it. 🤔 Suppose we'd have to tell them.

I just wasted about 2 hours of my time trying to figure out why a server would only connect at 100Mbit instead of the expected 1Gbit.

I had all sorts of ideas, NIC, driver, driver settings, switch related ... and in the end, I almost don't dare to say it, it turned out to be a cabling problem ... you know, there's a tiny little difference between a Cat5 and a Cat5e cable ...

Who the heck still has Cat5 patch cables lying around?!! ... me, for example 😱 but one less now!!

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@riaschissl Oh, it happens. The important thing is that you learned from it. Next time you'll check the cable sooner in the debug process.

Spent the afternoon setting up my new MacBook Air, installing loads of software. I like to do this manually, leaving behind all the unnecessary stuff from my former MacBook I don’t intend to use on the new machine… #MacBookAir

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@sebastianhahn I don't always do this, but whenever there's a major change (processors; PowerPC → Intel → M-series), I always start fresh to avoid digital debris.

Also realized I’ve been a Mac user for twenty years now. Huh.

Wednesday:
104 seconds of plank
11 minutes of yoga for runners
30 minutes of HIIT
20 minutes of strength training
23km of (16°C)

Then, a quick shower, and biked to today’s site, spent two hours in a comfortable server room (quite cool to normal types), broke for lunch, then spent two hours pulling fibre outside, couldn't figure out why I was dying, biked home, and saw that there was a Humidex of 38°C.

Oh. No wonder.

Can it be winter now please and thank you?

PLEASE?
