@Wuzzy if you are also ok with an Akkoma instance, you can join me here (I'm poVoq from Freegamedev.net). You will also get a XMPP account with it. I just need to find some time to improve the themes again, as the recent Akkoma update somehow wiped the custom dark theme I installed.
I picked #Fosstodon as my #Mastodon instance because it appeared to be very #FOSS-friendly but dependence on #CloudFlare is a clear no-go. It's also quite old which speaks for stability (also very important).
Unfortunately, in many places of the #WWW, you can't really run away from #CloudFlare anymore. However, #Mastodon is very different because of its decentralization. I hope I will find a suitable new instance soon.
@Haijo7@Wuzzy Well there's Fastly and others too I suppose, but if you have an issue with CloudFlare you'd have an issue with any other DDoS protection that is a reverse proxy. (acting as a middleman that is able to read everything that flows through them)
It has been brought to my attention that #Fosstodon is behind a #CloudFlare. I didn't believe this but the #whois records seem to confirm this. This is unacceptable and I am probably going to change instances soon. Wish me luck!
The control that #CloudFlare is holding over the #WWW is scary and it seems harder and harder to escape its grasp.
#Minetest news: The next version of Minetest will have more ways for games to modify textures, like changing hue, screen blends, changing contrast, and more. Many of these reflect features in The #GIMP.
Sounds pretty useful.
:minetest: Important new #Minetest feature: Mouse #shortcuts for crafting and moving item stacks around. There are now many convenience features when sneak-clicking or dragging item stacks around to make inventory management faster. For example, Sneak+Click on the crafting output crafts and moves item(s) to the inventory.
Very good, stuff like this is what Minetest needs! 👍
This is an alternative YouTube frontend for the web with all the bullshit of YouTube cut out. What is important to me, it avoids the JavaScript Trap because all code of Invidious is free software.
Probably not for complete web beginners, but I still recommend it for those who want control. 👍
@Wuzzy
I just use mpv ytdl://URL, and yt-dlp directly when I like a song.
This doesn't allow me to click on similar videos, but I watch YT sporadically and it doesn't matter.
@Wuzzy
there is also a relevant thing called #Farside, which serves as a redirect to various #Invidious and other alternative frontend instances.
For example, this link will get you rickrolled through different Invidious instance each time you open it: https://farside.link/invidious/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
#Twitter has OFFICIALLY endorsed #transphobia, with owner #ElonMusk promoting an anti-trans propaganda film piece (which has been compared to anti-vax and anti-evolution propaganda) after being pressured by transphobes and fashists to do so.
The worst part is that he went out of his way to override a decision of moderators to suit his agenda.
Sadly, two of my Minetest contributions died recently. They would have added 2 helper scripts to update and syntax-check the #translation files for mods. This code was used successfully in production for a long time but still was rejected because it is not "on the roadmap". 😠
Apparently quality assurance is not a priority in #Minetest development. 🤪
This June, I will attend a #Pride event like I did last year. I do this to show to my local town that #asexual and #aromantic people like me exist and there is no shame in that. These are both identities that often tend to be "forgotten" even in very #queer spaces.
