Enjoy when humans are using machines in unexpected ways. I break stuff and I do stuff. Paperbay.org is my chaotic librarian side and the server is operated by yours truly. I do photography, painting and many other things...

If you are looking for nice gems in , there is the very old and the well maintained fossies.org website.

🔗 https://fossies.org/

maintained by Dr. Jens Schleusener

A great resource, easy to read and without a single bit of advertising.

“Ethical Source and Open Code [are] a direct attack on the values of the OSI (and, incidentally, the FSF), from a direction that I believe [they] did not see coming: maintainers and developers. I believe that this is the first fundamental value shift on that front since the movement split from the Free Software Movement. This puts especially the OSI on the defense. And this defense is weakened, as they have missed building ties to major community drifts.”

@ramsey I think OSI is still very relevant on ensuring that open source terminology is used properly and not abused. It’s maybe where they need to work and especially on the different licenses or businesses abusing the open source terminology.

Maybe it would be useful for flickr to be connected to the and allow every photographer to make their accessible to a new larger network?

@flickrfdn @d0n What you think about it?

I love darktable @darktable it works really and it's a nice piece of software. But I still don't get why darktable uses the filename as a reference and not the hash of the content. I have two cameras outputting the same filename and then darktable always reused the same old history which I need to reset.

I suppose it's a common issue but I'm the only photographers using more than one camera at the same time ;-)

a,
@a@paperbay.org avatar

@darktable Thanks for the trick but it’s when I open a single in darktable so not sure why you rely on the filename and not the hash of the content.

a,
@a@paperbay.org avatar

@darktable A single import by opening the raw image directly from the filesystem browser.

a,
@a@paperbay.org avatar

@darktable Yes it's directly from an SD card. Does this have an impact?

a,
@a@paperbay.org avatar

@darktable Interesting. I didn't know the full path was in the db. This maybe explains the issue with the collision between the files if the path is also used as the path is indeed the same for different CF cards. Thanks for the feedback.

I posted last week about how a firm called Copytrack is claiming I illegally used a photo their client took on my blog

I responded stating no, I took the photo, and gave them the original file inc. EXIF to show it - 6 years earlier than claimant said it was taken

Now they're beginning legal procedures against me!

Digging further I’ve found the pic dated 2009 on Flickr
https://flickr.com/photos/jonworth-eu/3319581238/in/album-72157615812931134/

And on a 2010 copy of my blog on Wayback
http://web.archive.org/web/20100317012214/https://jonworth.eu/la-maison-cauchie-charming-on-a-sunday-afternoon-in-brussels/

How much proof do I need? 😡

a,
@a@paperbay.org avatar

@jon I got a similar request about a picture that was stolen from my flickr stream and then where the license was changed from CC-BY-SA to a proprietary license. I sent a reverse invoice about the use as they mentioned the number times they used the picture. I never heard from them after ;-)

If you are curious about the current state of federated git forge like gitea and other, maybe have a look at:

https://forgefriends.org/blog/2023/06/21/2023-06-state-forge-federation/ published by @forgefriends

At least they are trying but it seems to be a very complex model looking at the fediverse and the actual interoperability limitations/issues of ActivityPub. Why not just federating the actual git commit log? and carrying just the notification via ActivityPub?
